Archie wasn't actually *my* dog. He was my neighbor and landlord's.
Don't get confused now -- my neighbors were a couple named Josh and Henrik. It just so happens that I am also Josh, and had a dog (Berner) named Henrik. The fact that we all lived together and also had the same names is entirely coincidental.
But Archie, (other) Josh's dog, was sometimes a handful for them but was always an angel for me. I found out that Archie passed away this week. :(

Real talk for a second, I know we're internet friends and I didn't mean to crap all over a post; I'm genuinely sorry if that's what ended up happening.
As a person who's had type 1 diabetes since 1984, I've seen us be "on the verge of <fill in the blank>" for so, so long now. I'm not the conspiratorial type and even for me it seems suspicious.
I can tell you though that in the 80s when I was a kid, even then Regular (not Humalog!) insulin was $50/vial.

Type 1 diabetic. Need insulin to live. The “$11 insulin” gimmick isn’t a thing.
It’s a thing if you:
Are on Medicare or Medicaid
Only require so much a month
And apply for the program
And can use generic off-label insulin*
*medically, like many people, I need a particular kind of insulin, a kind which retail at CVS is $750 a bottle and for which I use 4-5 a month
This $11 insulin tagline has been floating around since 2016 and it’s hot fucking garbage.

You know what I think it is? I think it's the chilling effect on free speech.
I don't want to take away anyone's first amendment right to say anything. From the left or the right or anywhere else on the spectrum.
But I want to make sure that Good and Right things prevail over Wrong, and I don't want the Good to stop screaming and raging against the Wrong.

I unboxed our items from our Berner Henrik who passed several years ago. Had to take his box of ashes out of the box because it just wasn’t right to unpack them later. That dog changed my life. My whole world. They all do. RIP my Henrik.

It’s interesting to see how much calmer our dog is now that we’ve moved to a house. He used to *hate* being left alone but now he doesn’t cry when we leave.
Only been a couple days for us, but even though he’s still skeptical of the backyard he seems… happier. Even though there was no shortage of smells for him to investigate when we lived downtown.

I managed to cut my toe yesterday while on camera for a meeting. I sat there, quietly bleeding, wondering if this was how I was going to die. Don’t ask.
It wasn’t a serious cut, but there was so. Much. Blood. Thank goodness for this tissue box.

I think the part where I almost lost my cool on the call was where a person who is intelligent enough to know better but is still a Trump supporter responded to someone saying “these are not manufactured in the US” with “not yet.”

I just had an incredibly depressing call with hardware manufacturers with Intel on the line and we were calculating not for keyboards, but for the servers one might plug a keyboard into, the various tariffs already incurred, happening now, and expected to happen within the next 180 days.

Ladies and Gentlemen and Smizmars, I shit you not: today just before Noon in Downtown Pittsburgh, manhole covers were blown skyward out of their recesses in Grant Street.
Of course I immediately posted in my teams Slack channel about this — throughout the day several people had asked if I was ok so I let them know that I wasn’t crazy and that manholes flying 50 feet and then crash landing likely accounted for my experience.

My husband finished up his swing shift — we both work from home in the same study. He switched from his work PC to his personal just to check messages. And then he gasped and started laughing.
An electrical fire on Grant Street, one block over from where we lived, had ignited a bunch of high voltage lines under the street (a huge main thoroughfare on the west side of town) and completely blown two manhole covers out of their holes and several stories into the air.
