@nprofile…l7em facebook groups are just too casual and too easy and full of people who aren't safe. I don't organize with people whose hand I haven't shaken and whose face I don't know these days. All those big discord servers and huge group Signal chats are just infiltrated all to hell. We used to do it with shoe-leather and maybe I'm a fossil but I still think that works best.

I too find it a bit rich that people in the moveable middle seem more animated by the destruction of a building than by the litany of cruelties but you also don't get to choose which symbolic moments animate people, you just need to take full advantage of them when you get the chance.

@nprofile…6ehd I'm a big fan of self reliance and an experienced practitioner of a number of survival skills, homesteading, and all kinds of other things. I believe in the whole DIY thing.
I just think the idea that you can "go it alone" is toxic and at the heart of a *lot* of what is wrong in masculine-centered, xenophobic survivalist culture.
Nobody ever talks about the component of self-reliance that involves being a good neighbor, but when I lived on a farm we knew the value of it.

Felt froggy and got our raised beds set up with my daughter this morning! Went a little overboard on the design, but after years of using raised beds at other homes I''ve gotten pretty specific about what I want.
These are made of cedar (to resist rot a bit) with pvc attachment points on the corners and sides. That lets me have neat, configurable climbing trellises and poles from year to year depending on my needs.

I think I'm probably more alert to the news than most but, babies, I am making it these days by setting aside most of it and focusing on the fights that are in front of me. The ones I'm most qualified to fight. I find that makes me less overwhelmed and more efficient.

I've been assaulted by Nazis twice at work. I've had Nazi guns trained on me at work. I've had my name, face, and place of employment shared by Proud Boys, who've shown up to find me. I get hate mail (not just email -- real letters) regularly wishing me death.
I don't think those facts make my positions more/less correct and I dislike how Extremely Online Activist Culture encourages folks to use Nazi Violence Bona Fides to sneer about someone else's ethical positions.

I'm a guitarist, and I always admired Santana for his fierce dedication to making space for Latinx music in the mostly white-co-opted-blues-bro world of his era. And I absolutely love his playing. It breaks my heart that he has hatred for people like me, but that's the story of being #trans I'm afraid. Finding out your heroes hate you. I can hold those two truths quite well, as I have with so many people who were much closer to me.
