So many businesses and schools here in #tucson have announced they’re going to be closed tomorrow for the general strike. This is awesome.

Today ICE agents stopped a vehicle on the street that goes by my kid’s school. They detained somebody from the vehicle and just left it there blocking traffic. These goons just DNGAF. Luckily they were not there to raid the school, but kids outside for PE were concerned. #fuckice #tucson

When i first saw calls for a walkout/general #strike in Minneapolis i was not impressed. But then as i saw more details i realized these “don’t go to work” calls are not about just staying home. Instead of working, or going to school or whatever u do, you don’t stop with refusing that, you also go out and actively DO STUFF. Engage with people, follow ICE agents around and harass them, stop them from being served at restaurants, don’t let them sleep at hotels, defend places they’re trying to raid, etc.
This is a lesson i will take for general strikes in general.
Of course i still think it’s a strategy that only people with certain privileges or support can safely do, and others shouldn’t be shamed for not doing it. Some simply can’t risk being fired or losing a day or days of pay. But if some others make it impossible for your employer to stay open, you get to leave work and join the fight.

It's so crazy and remarkable that data centers are now measured in Gigawatts of electricity they use. What other infrastructure or industrial equipment is measured in terms of how much it consumes, rather than how much it produces? Imagine if breweries were sized by the weight of the hops they used rather than the gallons of finished beer.

@nprofile…kspn yeah raytheon and other defense contractors are big chunk of Tucson's economy. There has always been protests, but never enough to stop them. Then there's also the Air Force base, source of endless training flights to remind us of "the sound of freedom." rah rah, america fuck yeah! Freedom costs a buck oh five! 😩

“Our best friends in the world—senators I know as strong supporters of Israel—have warned that they cannot support us if images of mass starvation emerge," he said. “They come to me and say, ‘We’ll give you all the help you need to win the war… but we can’t be receiving pictures of famine,’” Netanyahu added. To continue the war of annihilation, he asserted, “We need to do it in a way that they won't stop us.”

Really missing #indymedia lately, especially on a day like today. Here in #tucson last night at The Loft Cinema (local nonprofit arthouse theater) antigenocide people protested the screening of “October 8”, a blatantly propagandistic zionist doc. I was going to go (made a new sign!) but I had to stay home for family stuff and now scouring local news can’t find anything substantial about what happened. but a friend says cops showed up and a protester was beaten. #freepalestine

I really, really hate this timeline.
What I saw at a Costa Rican detention center | American Friends Service Committee
“This is a major shift from CATEM’s original purpose as a shelter where migrants could voluntarily come and go, get a meal, and stay overnight before continuing their journeys. Historically, Costa Rica has been known as a safe haven for refugees. But that changed in 2022, when the Chaves government imposed asylum restrictions, making it harder for people seeking protection.”

Hey #Chatbots programmers and conversational #ai peeps: what’s the best free, open source, easy to use sdk/platform/framework for creating a sort of mock/satirical advice columnist chatbot, based (trained) on the writings of a certain philosopher, that can work on-premises (non cloud)? I’ve been looking at a lot of tools and so far they range from “doesn’t really work” to “looks super complicated”… any advice?

@nprofile…q5wq i see they sort of define it in broad strokes but the definitions sorta brings up more questions than answers. What exactly is the “status quo”? How long does something have to be the situation before it becomes status quo? Etc etc.

@nprofile…q5wq having not read the whole paper im wondering how they define “conservative”. For example are racism, fascism, book-banning, and infringement of civil rights all inherently conservative?

more great #AI stuff.
"The division of labor was never just about efficiency; it was also about control. By fragmenting craft production—picture a shoemaker making a pair of shoes—into a set of modular routines, the division of labor eliminated the autonomy of the artisan. Now management brought workers together under a single roof, which meant they could be told what to do and watched while they did it."
