The #solar panels are up and running as of last week. made it through an inspection, got a net meter and have started selling energy back! we'll have to wait a couple of months to see how the bills turn out, but it should be good. we have a little bit of home automation to go with this using Homeassistant too. I'll share more on that once the kinks are worked out a bit.

the towers have worked great for us. they hold about 3 dozen eggs each and let them roll down gently enough to not cause any issues. I like the chicken in front of your eggs. looks like she is on guard duty!

We've been doing electric fencing for a few years but just ran across this recently. Clamping on to the polywire has worked, but there are areas burning out causing the juice to stop flowing the the end. Is poly braid the next best thing up from here? or should we look into heavier gauge solid wire? This is a before and after repairs pic of the fun little discovery.

We had the awesome opportunity of getting to sell our goods at our first farmers market! It was a small venue with just a few booths since it was the first time, but it was worth it! I love what you're doing here. I just started running a bitcoin node on Umbrel a couple of months ago, not too bad. question for you on the miner - do you get a decent return on bitcoin mining vs the power output to run the miners? I am thinking about bit coin mining myself, but read about bit coin miner pools, lots of compute, and obstacles to get started. you make it look easy and at home, that is appealing to me.

thank you for sharing! sounds like there were lots of ups and downs for sure. I noticed there didn't appear to be much for holes and tore up dirt. are you using any minerals with the pigs by any chance? we have IPPs and notice that if we reduce or run out of minerals they tear up the ground more.

I just went through this building my first bitcoin node on Umbrel. ended up switching from a 7200rpm spinner over to an SSD, made a world of difference! I had't thought of turning off the TOR, sounds like something I should think about. Does having TOR on make much of a difference @npub1xn9…vhwl ?
If you run into trouble migrating data @npub16up…nevp let me know. I just did it a couple of times after doing the initial block sync, worked like a charm. they don't have docs for it on Umbrel, but it wasn't too bad if you're good on the command line.

Is it possible to send note or messages to yourself? I am wondering if there would be a way to report on the measured voltage of an electric fence and plot it on a timescale alongside temperature, humidity, etc? not sure what is possible, but thinking outloud.
starting with just voltage would probably be an easier win if that is something a board could or sensor could report.

would those be able to run a #btc #lightning node? is it worth it to run your own?
I have a good solid background in Linux, Kubernetes and tech things, so if it is difficult, it wouldn't bother me. just wondering if it is worth exploring. BTW, I didn't use the right tags the first time, still learning where everyone hangs out :-)

Does anyone have any advice for a good email list provider? I started using AWeber with the free service (still getting my feet under me) and they managed to quietly suspend my account. I only found out after I couldn't get any test emails to work, even to myself. My website is over at https://backporchfarmstead.com - I do have a BUYER BEWARE notice, maybe that is too much freedom :-)
I am freedom minded and am using a custom domain with Protonmail. I don't know if this is what got me banned, but maybe it played a part. I asked AWeber to share with me how I got blocked, don't know if they will get back with me or not.
Ideally, I'd like to use an email service starting on a free plan and build my audience up. I'd like to integrate with Wordpress if possible too, but could make that optional. Any good alternatives?

bees, wonderful bees. this was a few weeks ago, but I'd thought I would share some advice about beekeeping. the bees don't read the books! it was early March here in Georgia, mornings were still cool, the box the swarm found was not good, but they went there anyway! If only they read the books, the bees would have known to wait until it warmed up and I put out a bait hive for them :-)

hey Daniel, we have done a few of them and really enjoy the quality of meat we get. generally speaking, here is how things turn out, with a picture of some of the chops.
We feed an average of 3-4 lbs per pig per day of regular grain. The grass stays pretty fresh with a move every 7-10 days. Add to that a couple of extra chicken eggs every now and again. The pigs usually finish out around 200-225 lbs live weight in about 10-12 months. Our feed costs around $1 per pig per day (late 2022 numbers).

We were able to get 15 eggs in our half gallon jar. 14 now, we had to try one after it sat for a bit to make sure we knew what we were doing before scaling up to buckets.

Now this is how things eventually turn out with the pigs from the backyard. We save up enough for the family and clear all of the ribs out of the freezer for their travel to the smoker and the dinner plate. Not the biggest ribs, but certainly the best :-)

#[5] I would say at a minimum it would be good to have the option to say “I have X number of these items, first to people to zap me can get in on this” (inventory). As people zap, the availability changes. The zap would also include a way to share shipping info and any notes from the buyer.
Mobile friendly would be great as well.
Nice to have - some sort of reporting system where I could look back later and see sales or find orders.

Are you using a different client by any chance #[1] ?
I have been trying Iris, Damus, Snort and another one. I've found that depending on which nostr relays they are connected to, you'll have different results. Each relay holds a copy of your data, if it only makes it to one and the other clients don't have access to that one, you won't see it elsewhere.
