Wayland started out as a compositor you put in on top of X. I don't know if they had planned it as a replacement then or not, but I remember taking the time to make KDE spin around in a cube around 2008 or 2009.
Maybe I am remembering wrong.
I need to work on custom themes for @npub1aak…qvat that I have had in mind including an Evangelion Magi based one.

Honestly, I am trying to learn C so I can try and contribute some at some point.

Until my preferred Windows Manager stable supports Wayland its a dead end for me. Pretty sure thats the same for a lot of folk.
And of course there are the BSD's to consider. As far as I know Wayland is completely incompatible with them. So they have to have a path forward with either X11 or the Wayland developers need to put in the work.

I hate to say it, but you are right. No one I tried to even think of doing so did it. Same with Threads Federation. Couldn't get them to just flip a switch.
At least with X I could understand. Federation isn't an option, so you are trying to convince them to move completely to a different thing entirely. And with the Gatekeepers around here they might not enjoy it anyways.
But Threads and Bluesky have the option, it just requires a little bit of effort.

It does seem to have some issues with folk wanting to maintain a walled garden and only allow those they approve of in.
But I am gonna build my communities and activate Federation on all of them and try to bring more people in still.

... I am not having fun on Social Media much anymore.
Meta platforms are good for the occasional image that is out there, Instagram for the Bikini Models, and little else.
I used to admin forums and such for small niche communities and frankly I want back to that.
#Mastodon was the first try for me into the Fediverse. I have liked running my own instance and controlling it as I desire.
The PixelFed instance I finally finished seems pretty nice as a site to focus on my van project and the photography I plan to engage in as I travel.
I still haven't gotten the NodeBB forums up, but they are next on the list. Even if I don't end up with a lot of people taking part.
Sites are still on my agenda as well.
I just don't care for anything else about the big guys these days. Deleted my old Reddit and recreated an account just to comment on Fediverse and Vanlife mostly.
This is just me Ranting.

I am working on rebuilding one of my communities. Originally it was a small fanfiction thing but as I have another fan related domain I decided to make this one a Dark Fiction site and community.
Thing is that Dark Fiction can get... Dark.
So while I am working on the ideas and which software to use for community, I need to figure out what is allowed for rules and discussion.
Obviously moderation would need to be far more lax than say Mastodon.art or anything from Europe. You can't start banning everyone who talks about dark topics if they follow that topic to its darker logical conclusion.
Obviously Harrassment, KYS statements, Actual Racism, and a few other things should be banned. But discussion of how a racists bigoted character might address something shouldn't be.
I live in the US so 1st Amendment is pretty open ended.
Figured I would put this out to discuss cause it is such a disconnect between what most people would generally expect from an instance due to the subject matter.

There is a 35mm film stock called Cyberpunk that shoots really grainy hazy photos in old film cameras. It's about $10 per roll. It comes in other processes but the 800T allows you to shoot indoors and at night pretty well (just make sure you got a nice and low Fstop). Enjoy.

Looking for projects to do in order to learn some stuff for when I need to do things on a bigger scale.
Like my electricity system. Apparently there are folk who have DIY'd the solar generators you can get for about $300 to $5500 online.
The process might not be cheap, but the learning will be invaluable. Plus diy means being able to replace any one part that goes bad as opposed to the entire thing.

I don't even think you can measure such a thing the same way you would one of the Centralized systems, which is what this poster does.
Mastodon is not just Decentralized, but part of a much larger ecosystem. How many of those people who "left" Mastodon actually left Mastodon.social or one of the other big instances? How many decided an instance based on PixelFed or Peertube was a better fit and moved there?
It's not just Mastodon on here after all.

Working on the Mastodon server again while trying to get the web front-end working. Also Laundry day.
The van is currently on a battery charger we got off Ebay and is indicating that it's functioning. Will see when I get home.
Anyone with any ideas on this would be welcome on the frontend. If you know where I could at least find an error.log so I can try troubleshooting.

Still kind fighting to get the main Mastodon frontend working. SO far it doesn't seem to stop me from using the server, just not from that spot which makes sense.
MIght just give up and switch back to regular Mastodon here in a bit. But could really use some advice since it won't build the precompile phase.

We restarted the van after it sat with a low battery for far too long.

Sort of a catch 22 there though.
You need more batteries for greater range.
But the more batteries you have, the higher the mass, the more your range is reduced.
I wonder how much I could reduce the weight of the van to at least equalize the load.

I honestly wish someone would spend some time really working on an economy of conversion for ICE to EV for currently usable vehicles.
I haven't seen anyone put out something I can use as a Vanlifer, or for RV living at all. As far as I know only Winnebago is working on an electric RV right now.
Not to mention a conversion of older vehicles is gonna be cheaper than making everyone buy all these EVs that just keep sitting.

No, this is different and is a major issue for Foss project within the EU. Been hearing about it a lot from the Linux podcast I listen to.
It basically makes it so Tech companies are liable for anything that happens on their platforms or any security breaches attributed to their software. And for Meta or even projects providing key libraries and programs for Linux this could be bad.

The Van project is at a stand still. My Dad is interfering, causing me issues and keeping me from getting registration and insurance handled.

So, since I now have a van to work on I will be focusing on what to do for my Vanlife blogging.
I figure just setting up a wordpress blog on Wanderers-Waypoint.com will be sufficient. I can add ActivityPub support for myself and build a community there with one of the forum plugins. That being said, if I do that then it becomes opt-in for federation. The plugin requires a user to toggle the process on.
So I am open to options as well.

In a lot of ways Discoverability on Fediverse is going to be like it was back in the early days. Just linking and talking about the cool sites and communities you found with friends.
Of course you also kinda need to build the cool stuff yourself half the time.

I only got to see this a couple of times at the Tilt arcade below the food court of North East Mall in Hurst, but this was an extraordinary concept at the time.

So, here's a question for all of you.
I want to start blogging about my move into #vanlife and vehicle camping and feel blogging will help.
I have three domains:
TinyopolisTX
TinyopolisUSA
Wanderers-Waypoint
I want to include federated communities into my setup.
Should I Stick with one domain and use the Subdomains to handle add-ons? Should I try and build a community on one and blog on the other?
Thoughts?

You sure? I seem to do just fine when I'm at work and such, its just when I'm on my private time, when I can't seem to get myself to do anything at all I get these issues.
