Wayland started out as a compositor you put in on top of X. I don't know if they had planned it as a replacement then or not, but I remember taking the time to make KDE spin around in a cube around 2008 or 2009.

Maybe I am remembering wrong.

I need to work on custom themes for Enlightenment :enlightenment: (npub1aak…qvat) that I have had in mind including an Evangelion Magi based one.
