The positioning is on. Bitcoin will be acceptable as gold 2.0 as long as you have it stored in a custodial wallet and everything is transparent for the government. Btc will be illegal as a payment method, self-custody wallets will be made illegal. Yeah, this is really tricky. Even by shaking out weak hands and destroying short sellers it seems as though that wouldn't resolve the rehypothecation that would be the ultimate fate of paper markets. As long as people have trust in the institutions selling them watered down crap (1:150 paper contracts for instance) they will buy (reference my previous comment on ignorant masses). People buy paper silver/gold in droves, people happily trust USD (though that is waning to a slight degree). The core problem as I can see it is trust. If people don't trust institutions, they won't show up to purchase its products or engage in its schemes. Ignorance breeds trust, skepticism/knowledge(?) demands veracity. How do we precipitate a decline in trust of fraudulent institutions, how do we nudge this rather than waiting for them to collapse upon their own weight??
A bitcoin standard where paper bitcoin is equivalent to private key bitcoin is no different than our current fiat system, except that more institutions get to play the money printer game as they create paper contracts.
This all brings me back to your mention of disorder. Sadly, to me, it seems the only way you can create honesty out of fraud is through massive pain. Most people choose to take their health seriously right after the cancer diagnosis. Hyperinflation educates people on monetary systems. DUIs, firings, broken marriages wake up alcoholics. Ugh, sounds depressing, but feels real. If the bigs can be nudged to failure sooner than later, if the average person's trust in institutions gets rekts much sooner than later, I think the transition to a more honest system could be less destructive/disorderly.

Yep, this is to be expected. Let's be honest here, if (as) this continues, do we just replicate the gold/silver paper markets with base-level bitcoin? I don't see many new "bitcoiners" scrambling to secure their private keys, just like (hisorically) I don't see many investors in gold/silver going through the process of self-custody. On average, people are sadly ignorant, bitcoin can't fix ignorance. So, what are the next steps to prevent paper bitcoin from destroying actual price discovery? This problem has not been solved for the other forms of honest money.

Heck yeah, that is great! Ok, once you acclimate to that routine, up the intensity, do a solid1-1.5 hours of muscle training at the gym first thing in the morning. Yes, meaning apps all need to be open source and decentralized? ...and ultimately, hosted in a decentralized fashion (Qortal or something similar?) Does this ultimately push btc and other crypto into acceptable (exchange-tagged crypto) and unacceptable (associated with addresses that are from custodial wallets?) pools whereby unacceptable crypto is never accepted by corporate entities and remains only as peer to peer community money? Many questions, there always have been.
Ultimately for me, I've arrived at a perspective that sees the necessity of decentralizing literally every aspect of digital communication, and with tools that are desired by normies. Only once the entire ecosystem of digital communication (of money, of speech, of sharing, of ...) reaches a critical mass of participants can we hope to actually score a real, sustainable hit against the elitist class.

100%. I must say, I fall into "crowd-pleasers" when I use btc to refer to decentralized digital value exchange here as this is a fairly btc maxi environ. Certainly no hate whatsoever to the btc maxi crowd, but history has not been written, we don't know how this all plays out, and we certainly don't know what will be valued as money in the future. To that end, Monero is a great tool. Been mining it for years, been accepting it as my preferred method of payment at festivals for years, wish more people would adopt it.

This is clear thinking. If we are in fact moving toward a panopticon society of oligopolistic control, then a system of laws is largely irrelevant. Non-participation becomes extremely important as does, as Chris states, storing valuables out of reach of the corrupt state. BTC serves this function well. Gold/silver also serve this function well, though not as perfect as btc. Unregistered private property in inaccessible locations is also good. Base layer skills (mechanic, gardening, building, etc skills ) are also unconfiscatable and make you more resilient/increase your community value. Essentially sovereign human type stuff. I'd be curious to hear other peoples' ideas on decentralizing ownership amid increasing corruption.

Yeah, certainly not a popular thing to say, and I have for a long time considered myself quite apolitically progressive (though NOT in an economic sense), but I do tend to agree with your sentiments. Everyone do whatever the fuck you want to do as long as you are not committing violence toward others, but celebrating explicitly anti-life choices doesnt seem to bode well for the future of a successfully procreative populace.
