Depends on the amount of data on the screen... Monochrome of any color is harder to read as a wall of text, particularly if different types of data are shown. The one exception I can think of is something like a long form article or story, but even then I like to see links, chapter, or topic headers that stand out.

GM Nostr!!! The temps are finally starting to get above freezing allowing the ice to soften enough to dig out. I was actually able to get to the store yesterday after 8 days locked into my house. Still took some tractor work, but have a path from my house to the truck and even a bit of space to turn around

Attached is a graph for the temps I saw here in central VA (Rhoadesville). Looks like the low was 11.1f on the 24th @ 7:03 while the high was 26.8 on the 25th @ 9:01
The temp was mainly hovering around 16-19f late Saturday and Sunday
Currently on the ground is about 5 inches of hard icy/dry snow with a crust about an inch thick (just enough to almost walk on without breaking through)

1230 Monday morning, no more snow since early evening, existing about 4-5 inches with a thick ice crust... 25f. Looks like at least in my area it was not as dire as predicted. It will probably be a day or two to dig out though,
I bet my tractor is not happy with the temps and will be tough to start so I can clear the driveway.

Even if it is proven the agent overacted, I still think MN govt is to blame by encouraging such behavior and setting up a situation where agents need to not only be concerned about the actual person they are apprehending, but about protesters and what they may do. This causes tremendous pressure on those involved and tempers as well as judgment suffers.

I somewhat agree with this. Any extremely large windfall has its risks, particularly if it instantly fuels an increase of your standard of living...
I have no heirs, and no real "generational wealth". But if I did, I would make sure it was planned. While I would need some time to plan the specifics it would go something like this:
Setting a monthly payout of 1/2 the avg local salery, a new car, and a median level starter home in the area of heirs choice. this is not quite enough to live on but is enough to be a safety net.
An accounting would need to be provided to the trustee manager for the yearly spending this should demonstrate charitible giving and responsibility.
Year 10 or 25yrold with at least 4 years of acceptable behavior the main payout begins. The stipend increases to avg "industry pay scale" tied to main jobs held or degree earned, a business plan for the rest of the payout is presented in which up to 2/3 of all startup costs are approved by the manager. If there are no plans for the use of the money then this level will remain in force. The manager would have instructions for "raises" based on anual reporting (things such as inflation, life changes, emergencies, bonuses for certain action, even just getting on with life and dropping out of the main program)
Once a level of success is reached the remaining funds are released according to the wishes of the heir. I would hope that by this time there would be a level of responsibility learned, youthful irresponsibility is in the past, etc.
In any case, the heirs health needs are covered, and the manager would have full authority to release funds to cover major medical or old age care (if it came to that and money available)
Of course, this only works for a sizable inheritance, I feel that anything smaller is not a real risk and would just setup a monthly stipend till the money ran out or the heir turns 25... Something like that.

I was feeling it. I just checked my unchained accounnt and the BTC is in my vault ... It is not much of my IRA, about a quarter, but it is a start and I plan on making regular purchases as well... My goal is 1 or 2 BTC in the next 5-7 years
Now to be able to just forget about it while the price swings hard. Lol.
I am not quite all in with the most bullish folk but I do think I will get a good return over the next 10 years .... And like I have heard. One BTC will still be worth one Bitcoin.

Not 30 (I'm 60 ) but been through a couple cycles like that. Untill something resets your life (marriage, military, moving from the area, etc) It is easy to fall into that rut. Mine was shortly after the military, I settled in Sacramento, hooked up with a gaming group and we proceded to spend the next 10 years doing the same stuff together (only stopped when I moved and even then I made a couple trips back)
If you want to move on, give yourself a reason and a goal. Put a new playlist on rotation (different genre or at least year). Step away from Social Media. Get a new hobby. Touch grass (literally, take up hiking or some outdoor activity) Anything to change your status quo it does not mean dumping your friends, just don't spend as much time with them, and when you do hang out, try different settings
It is not easy, although it is not as hard as it seems. We are creatures of habit, break the habit and create new ones.

How much power does your setup take? not whole house, but just the bitaxe.... I am setting up some solar mainly for the out buildings (don't want to go through the hassle of an interconnect. ) but am working on enough extra capacity that I can if needed connect the house, but that means I will have a bit of excess power generation so was thinking miner.

I was musically aware during most of its run. MTV was revolutionary, not only for music but arguably for a whole generation of cinema. A lot of music videos told stories in 3-5 minutes, with the lyrics tied to the visuals, greatly adding to the artistic expression. MTV defined a whole generation's music, not only as an auditory experience but as a visual one as well.
I don't know if people got bored with the format or if it was a pure money play, but MTV did lose its way. They fell into the reality TV trap, following a format that, while kind of interesting for a season or two, quickly devolved into overproduced and scripted crap with just the barest relation to its music roots.
Even so, MTV and its spinoffs/copycats defined music for many. It started (and ended) careers and allowed for the rise of superstars.
Video really did kill the radio star, but it also boosted the music artist.

So basically they are abandoning the retail / consumer ai market. I wonder if it is also partially a push by "the powers" to regain control... I have mixed feelings on the news. For good or ill AI has allowed individuals to generate quality political statements and visions.
Yes I know 90% of the AI crap is based on pushing certain agendas at the most base levels, but there is some good content out there that would not be watched since if did not have a well produced presentation. You are not getting a modern audience to read a poorly memeographed flier, even though that flier probably had more heart, more real passion in it then a reddit post or 20 second ai vid.....

My main sears experience died in the mid 80s... As teens we would of course "go to the mall" and part of that experience was the little arcade in one corner of the sears anchor. It was a hopping place, shelves full, they even had stuff that caught our interest...
I joined the Navy in the mid 80s and my sears experience pretty much came to end, I would pop into the same sears sometimes while on leave and I remember how it was changing, the arcade disappeared, the catalog section expanded, the shelves got a bit more empty. It never became my go to store for stuff, by the mid 90s your right, the place (like most department stores) became dead places. Everything started to cater to an older crowd, the clothes sections got larger, the appliance and tools sections got smaller.
I imagine the remaining stores are more akin to discount stores, places where all the internet order returns and overstock goes on 70% off sales.....

When utilities and more retail accept BTC payments. It won't be purely the AIs choice though as there will be rules put into place (I. E. When utility bill notifies by email and bill is within 6 month average +/- 3%, then make payment and send notification)
So not TRUELY without permission, but about as close as it is going to get. And not that far off from real relationship dynamics (spouses come to a meeting of minds about what the expected utility bill should cost and once paid let's the spouse know)
At the end of the day BTC (just like fiat) is a limited resource and needs to be monitored, setting rules (either for others including ai, spouse or self) is the main way to do that.

The counter argument is that society needs rules and a way to manage the big picture. The US constitution, if followed, the federal govt has very limited powers basically to mediate disputes between the states, the protect the various states from external forces, and to ensure one state does not impose its will on the others
Arguably that pretty much worked untill the civil war. When a group of states decided that the federal government was too powerful and was trying to control things it should not (I am not arguing the right or wrong of the main southern cause, we all know that answer). The federal government took on the role that all power structures take, they entrenched and actively fought to maintain power.
That does not mean that govt is inherently bad, it is more the weakness of the human condition... Some lust for power and some are all to willing to give it up. Us that are stuck in the middle suffer.

My big fear is a govt play to either kill or take it over and treat/regulate it like other assets...
We need BTC to be used not just held as investment I know we all laugh (or cringe) at the guy that famously paid for his pizza with multiple bitcoin, but in a real world that is just what we need to do. Hell, I bought my ledger wallet when they were running the eth deal, it cost me 1.4 eth which at the time was around $100... I still came out ahead at the time because I bought it for apx $50

While I am just entering the frey (portion of IRA going into cold storage) bear market just means time to hold and buy more although perhaps in moderation, cost averaging, etc.
For my part, I did moderate the buy, but I plan on using the amount I did not transfer to buy more as the price drops. In about 3-5 years I will have moved that amount into BTC

At what point do terrorist/freedom fighters become mainstream? Not seen as terrorists or bad guys?
In Star Wars I never saw the rebellion in the same light as the Viet Cong {today it would be Hamas, or other terrorists. Sure they shared some elements (small underfunded, but holding their own) but they were always the rightfully govt in exile trying to take back what was corrupted and stolen
While there are a few incidents and individuals in cannon that resorted to terrorism, for the most part the rebellion kept the fight clean, only attacking military forces, they had a distinct chain of command, etc. it was the empire that was terroristic, they even admitted it. ("Fear will keep the empire in line" ) The death star was a terroristic weapon from the outset .... One that was meant to be used on populations that dared even to question the empower.

A good logo is not only about the "inside scoop" or the controversy. A good logo is one that has good recognition, a linkage to the product. I don't really care about any controversy or even being able to remember the elements that that make it up.
The cracker barrel thing is a case in point, they changed not only the company logo, but the company image. Just like the locations lost the comfortable image the logo became flat and corporate THAT is why people cared.
Designing a new logo for a new product is much simpler to do, you follow common, modern rules of compositions, the image the brand wants to convey, etc and it will be accepted. A logo redesign on the other hand, is much more involved. It has tradition, it has recognition, it has a certain design style that people grew up with. Very few radical redesigns work, at best they are ignored (and probably picked up by new generations at the expense of the old). That does not mean a few redesign is an automatic failure.
Coke is a good example. The current, cursive, logo started in the 40s and while has been refined over the years, elements added or taken away, it has retained that flowing style. That is not to say they have not tried, the blocky design that started with new coke in 85 has become almost as iconic, although I believe it is mostly used in the diet line.
Companies also try out new elements to set off special editions, Holliday's, seasons, or recognizing events/people/etc. the good ones that people remember usually still contain the base elements. Coke changes focus to larger Santa, Pepsi includes Holliday elements like trees or ornaments , etc, but the base element is still there even if you need to look for it.

Censorship resistant connections (whether that is social, financial, technical, etc).
I say resistant because even nostr use can be censored it just takes enough relays or even users to block you.
Centralized systems are inherently censored because there is one authority that has rules you need to go by. A centralized system also will mainly be put into place for gain, weather financial/profit or power.

I can also see govts picking up the idea, as much as it is a terrifying thought, but a real world id tied to nsec/npub like id that is tied to your drivers license, building permits, etc could help with the govt burocracy while keeping that data more private.

The concept of nsec/npub itself is liberating, sure other id schemes have existed (pgp, ssh keys, user/password) but they all fail in various ways (too technical, not portable, not fully developed idea, rely on memory).
I GET nsec/npub in a way that I never really understood ssh keys or pgp for some reason even though they are very similar there are also other protocols that are similar but you never hear of them....

Wow !!! NIST boulder has been on generator power since Dec 17, the generators are starting to fail. Already time has drifted by apx 4 nanoseconds (about a 5000x difference in accuracy.
I know that at least some crypto methods rely on accurate time, how long can those functions still work with the boulder NIST out of action? Are there other clock sources that feed the system?
I never gave this eventuality much thought... We take accurate time for granted, but now just one more thing to worry about as the collapse moves forward.

Historicly, captured paid mercs were treated worse then soldiers, sometimes enslaved or excecuted. A lot of times there were also ransomed back but often the client state would not pay the ransom.
I also don't think they benefit from the various treaties around regular troops (geniva convention or other agreements between the belligerents)

Not on this shelf but I remember when pop tarts were wrapped in a heavy foil pouch. The crust was firm but still flakey and had a nice buttery taste. (True this was probably due to chemicals and fake flavor but still)

Sometimes and depending on the job... I have had a year or so with no regular employment, or even work from home... It can get pretty monotonous to the point of not even knowing what day it is.
After you have hiked all the trails, hobbied your self silly, played all your computer games, etc I was ready to work again, deal with a new set of issues and people.
One of the biggest issues with retirement, besides the effects of just getting older, is the boredom factor... One day you just sit down in your chair and don't get up again.....

I don't know... Granted I had an abnormal younger period, I was in the Navy pretty much right after high school, so missed out on the whole need to afford rent or food thing. And when I got out I had a good skill set in computers that coencided exactly when those skills could benefit me best.
Now when I did get out, my rent was about $800 and I brought home about $2000 it was better but still could be rough. Especially putting myself through school.
Of course the "mandatory" expenses, like phone, streaming services, rent not including utilities, higher end computer (or computer at all) does not help any.
As far as 40 hours being too much.... No sympathy, welcome to adulthood

Publishing platform for the worship teams original stuff.
Church marketplace: kind of like Craig's list but for only the church (or affiliated churches). Could tie that into Bitcoin or sats fairly easy. Same with a meetup like function. ("Hey church, who's up for a raft trip this Saturday")
Develop a client/suite of apps that integrates a suite of the above functions and form a federation of churches...

My take as well. Which is actually fair, they are putting the time and resources into providing that premium service.
I do tend to lean into what Darth thinks, if you don't controll your own relay and wallet it is all subject to loss, being controlled, etc. it becomes a tradeoff based on how much you value your works....
If I had a feed that was more than "shit posting" or just socializing then I would definitely run my own services. In fact I am working toward that anyway, but for now I am fine with others hosting

Sounds like she is making about $12 - $14 /hr... The rent is about average for a 1-2 bedroom apartment in most parts of the country (not counting markets like NYC, northern VA, or San Francisco)
That is the average situation for most unskilled young workers in the US... I would say she works in fast food, or other retail

Correct, from what I understand it is due to the fact that you are using your identity, (something you are) and not a password (something you have). If you change your nsec (your login) then you are changing your identity.
While I would think it would be possible to develop procedures to link old with new, there would be a huge security risk doing so.

So I have (and use) both amythest and primal.
Primal: my first client, I think it is slightly closer to twitter in looks and functionality, I like the idea that it gets you up and running (with zaps even) right away. I think it took me about 20 min all told to do my first intro post. I like that there is a web site I can use on desktop. I think that ease points me to the next point...
It seems a bit too easy. I keep expecting the "corporate overlords" to direct my use. I know it is an irrational thought, nostr can not be easily twisted in that direction, but there it is....
Amythest: my client of choice now. Still need to get zaps worked out, and due to some issues with my plans to run my own relay, it is still not totally setup. I like the look and flow a bit better then primal, I also feel more comfortable that it is mine, my config, my feed.
This is not a slam on primal. They did nothing wrong and it is just the personal vibe I get, probably from all my years on various platforms.... Both clients are well done, they offer a good amount of features.

I've made soap for close to 15 years. We even had a biz that peaked just before the 08 collapse.
You can't go wrong with handcrafted soap, as long as you use quality ingredients the science has you covered. Love using tallow and experimenting with interesting herbal combinations.

Wow talk about a rabbit hole, this note led me full on to Alice's wonderland... Zk-proofs, interoperable wallets, govt and corporations tracking via statistics. And creating ghost profiles using just the inexact specific bits of info that leak out. All of it is exciting and scary at the same time
Even with zk techniques just the speed and efficiency that our data can be tracked does not bode well for privacy. True, they may not have my exact birthdate, but they know I am between 60 and 65, have a medical condition, what state and probably what city I live in. What booze I drink, and on it goes. All with 95% accuracy
True privacy is about to get much harder. I am starting to think effort needs to be put into hiding your true identity and forming an alternate, disposable one. But how to do that without the new identity being your "true one". I guess because it is "disposable" you just remake yourself every decade or so.

I understand it, I don't even nessacerilly disagree with it, but there are consumer laws in the US that say any such policies need to favor the consumer (always round down) and in some cases need to be equally applied (not only cash transactions)
This sounds like a franchisee setting a policy as a small money grab, the prices are probably going to be set such that in most cases the rounding is going to be up.

Is that even legal? I always thought posted price trumps policy. If I buy something (with tax) that comes to 0.59 then I pay 0.59
Gas stations get away with it because the 9/10 price is posted and factored into the total sale.
