It is unbelievable how much time this story spends on trying to convince the reader that this hunter was a really swell guy who did it all out of the goodness of his heart. An 'eager conservationist' (I paraphrase) who hunted for legitimate culling reasons (and not to fill his mansion with animal trophies, perish the thought).
As far as I'm concerned, the elephants should have been allowed to keep his head for a trophy.

the fact that the Murdoch media - who normally *never* have anything good to say about any given Labor government - are applauding and celebrating this social media ban tells us everything we need to know. They're touting it as an example to the world.
They put "let them be kids" on the title of their newspapers in a nation where it is normal, accepted and almost expected for 14 year olds (and younger) to work in the supermarket or in Cafés after school and on weekends. Where the 'age of criminal responsibility' in some states is as low as ten!
Meanwhile this ban is, as remarked on in multiple places, simply a capitulation. They can't regulate social media companies to make them protect children from harmful content. So they ban the children instead. It's mindbogglingly stupid.

So the BOM has taken to posting severe weather warnings first on Twitter, only visible to logged-in users.
Currently there appears to be a severe weather warning for Brisbane that is only visible to logged-in users on Twitter. It is not published on their website, nor on other social media. I can't verify this because I don't have a Twitter account, but coworkers have relayed that observation.
This is not only extremely, extremely bad - this potentially puts people at risk. Especially after yesterday's storm which dropped devastating hail on a few areas.
So according to the below weather warning, issued at 9:42 today, severe thunderstorms are likely today for the South East Coast, Wide Bay and Darling Downs regions. None of this is currently visible on the BOM website.
Government orgs should NOT use an exclusionary platform like Twitter for important public information. DO BETTER!

the private sector is using the public sector as a self-service buffet. Public tenders go to private companies, who bid low and then exceed projected delivery time frames and budgets. Public sector can't not deliver, so government has to throw good money after bad. Private sector hoovers it all up while making the public sector look bad for not delivering projects on time and overrunning budgets.
