It is unbelievable how much time this story spends on trying to convince the reader that this hunter was a really swell guy who did it all out of the goodness of his heart. An 'eager conservationist' (I paraphrase) who hunted for legitimate culling reasons (and not to fill his mansion with animal trophies, perish the thought).

As far as I'm concerned, the elephants should have been allowed to keep his head for a trophy.
