banger videogame idea:
yugioh forbidden memories clone with generative AI. instead of memorizing a single set of rules (mostly which elements plus a dragon plus a thunder are needed to make twin headed thunder dragon) you give the LLM a prompt and it generates an entire cardgame art and all.
every card combines with any other card to make whatever the AI thinks is appropriate, generate its stats and image on the fly during the fusion animation, cache the result for the future
with a lightning lora and lowres image generation on card art (512x512) you could probably get the GPU requirements low enough to be anything that can run dark souls
all i'd be using the LLM for would be picking a name and stats, so it could totally be generated at runtime

ideally you'd start with a cheap modular design, identify all resources needed for each part, and then modify it on the fly to address new threats. also it looks like nobody's actually checked appalachia for rare earths?
this could actually just be an appalachian mom and pop chip fab that piggybacks off old mining infrastructure there and potentially hires workers from that region if someone can identify which part of it has rare earths

But... at that point, it's not really a translation patch, is it? "Translation patch and i fixed this one bug." also runs into the issue that this has a really neat interaction where you can stack max MP buffs without raising HP to take advantage of the spells that cost x% of your max HP as fuel.

this is the jankiest fucking solution imaginable jesus fucking christ this is so cursed
this is SO FUCKING CURSED
so to explain a bit
i wanted to have a weighted loot distribution table that's easily scalable and not hardcoded without resorting to a plugin that reads an external json.
so i wrote a short script that
1) goes through a defined common event id (in this case, 18, which this is a screencap of)
2) looks for every command that adds a static value to variable 37 (eg, += 10)
3) adds each of those values together to get a cumulative weight for items in the pool
4) compares those weights against the prand that's calculated off gameseed
5) and writes that to variable 36
then i just compare variable 36 in the common event to get nice clean easy to write to and edit loot table common events
variable 37 isn't actually used for anything during calculation, it's just there to denote item weights, and after a long playthrough it's going to hit the engine's max integer size (999999) but it doesn't fucking matter because it's not actually USED FOR ANYTHING

@nprofile…fa2z @nprofile…ppwp the degree of visibility is based on player's current stamina. because damage and exhaustion accumulate, max stamina degrades over time. what you're seeing is max viewing distance, when your stamina is still maxed out from new game and when it's full because you're not sprinting. the game gets darker the worse things get and the more you flee, i just didn't want to show off that i haven't done the run animation yet and it just plays the unfinished walking animation faster

I just had a series of pointless but interesting thoughts. A while back, the CIA ran a bunch of studies on psychic phenomena and whatnot. Remote viewing, all that fun stuff. It was called Project Stargate, and it's declassified now. While certain things were definitively fake (telekinesis), the one thing that was definitively REAL was Rupert Sheldrake's experiments on being watched. He didn't simply ask people if they felt like they were being watched, he measured their galvanic skin response. It's how conductive your skin is to electricity. It goes up during stress, surprise, or high emotions. It's a completely subconscious and involuntary response.
People can, in fact, feel when they're being watched. Their body reacts to it. If you feel like you're being watched, you are. The skin acts similarly to how it does under anxiety. The tests ruled out that it was a localized electromagnetic signal like what sharks used. Not only did the body's response still occur when electromagnetically shielded from the person watching them, the same change occurred even when the watcher was doing it remotely through a camera feed in another building on the other side of the country.
This means whatever form the psychic powers/magic/ki/morphic energy/etc take, it is non-local and isn't diminished by distance the way magnets are. This would normally make trying to pin down its structure and develop a measurement tool extremely difficult, BUT, we may have somewhat of a way to measure it.
The global consciousness project runs a bunch of random number generators that they say get streaky when a bunch of people focus their attention on something. If that IS an observed behavior, you could compare the randomness of a handheld RNG device against the galvanic skin response of someone being watched and use that as a reference point to try to make a computer that's more sensitive to this field energy (gets streaky when high GSR) to create a psychic barometer.
It would be an actionable step towards moving psychic powers out of superstition towards something quantifiable and measurable. Like how the thermometer let us get more precise than "feels hot" and "feels cold" and opened up huge fields of engineering and technology, this might be a method of developing a real tool to identify what they are and how they work so that we can figure out what the soul is and how it works.

I really wish Palworld would expand on Zoe a bit. Like, yeah, it's great that I can now kidnap her and enslave her and get her chemically dependent on me and surgically alter her personality and sleep with her, but it's tragic that surgically implanting "masochist, mentally unstable, self-destructive" doesn't change her dialogue.
Massive missed opportunity imo

I want your opinion on a mechanic I'm designing:
Every attack can inflict multiple damage states (eg, bruising, broken jaw, concussion, etc) but the states are not equal in impact or odds. It's easier to bruise someone than to break their jaw.
However, damage states work Elden Ring's defense in reverse: every damage state makes the enemy more vulnerable to the next one. Swing a wrench at their head, you might whiff and bruise their arm instead, but the bruise makes breaking their jaw with that same attack go from 30% to 54%.
does this sound fun? damage on enemies snowballs

tried out a workflow idea i had a while back involving ai generated image -> pixelization tool -> skosh of manual cleanup
if you look close you can still see AI artifacting but it's relatively usable
