yeah we had a gora come over last week, when our architect told him what all it isn't great for (with a lot of sugar pre-poured) the gora's face turned red and he told him we aren't "prompting properly"
they're also responding to AI generated code not suiting the codebase with "Maybe we should replace the whole codebase with AI".

i do wish linux was as usable as windows. even when windows is backsliding, choosing linux feels more like a political choice than a practical one.
ever since i've shifted to NixOS my plex server's connectivity has become unusable, and now all bluetooth connections are unstable. I can't even connect a speaker without it blanking out every 2 seconds, and i can't stream on my TV via plex without the connection crashing in 30 seconds. None of this happened with Windows.
and i'm good at tech and troubleshooting! i'm a literal professional! how do we expect laypeople to abandon big tech with all this?

i do have an even deeper appreciation of the amount of work it takes to make sure a tech feature is planned from beginning to end now. you gotta scope it so you don't have any surprises. you gotta set a timeline so you have an end-goal to aim for. you gotta break up the tasks so any parallelizable parts can be picked up by multiple people. you gotta link dependencies so everyone knows which tasks can be picked up and which ones are dependent on others.

the same filename syntax i gave tramp two days ago suddenly doesn't work anymore. it's nice that emacs gives debug stacktraces but because this is an internal function i have no clue what i'm doing wrong
chat, what am i doing wrong? I've installed Putty and it's on my env, i'm doing the following:<code>/pscp:root@<ip><br></code>
and it fails. using tramp-dissect-file-name after digging it up from the stacktrace shows Tramp doesn't even consider it a proper remote file name. what the hell? this was working two days ago.

i did everything possible to make sure my laptop lasted as long as possible. and now this.
i guess it's a feat that it lasted this long, i bought it in 2019.
i just don't know what to do now, there's nothing equivalent to this laptop i can get at a good budget. it had good specs, i'd put in extra RAM, it had a good graphics card so i could play whatever.

lots of celebrating from RW colleagues because the tax slabs have been revised to lower income tax for 12 lakh LPA folks and remove it entirely for people below that threshold.
I benefit too, but i want to know what they're doing to make up for that deficit. Most of the country's taxes come in from GST anyway AFAIK, that's already increased prices for everything by a lot.

the pixelfed repo is poorly maintained and lots of important issues haven't been worked on/keep getting closed, like photos randomly being rotated after upload or reports not working at all. And now the project owner is asking for money since he's spending a lot of it on his own flagship servers, he's still recommending people join those instead of creating their own.
he's also got a history of saying weird quasi-bigoted stuff (though some of the stuff I feel is exaggerated).

Seeing my wife's journey with Doctor Who's been interesting, she's jumped around different seasons but generally avoided Matt Smith's seasons so far because she didn't really see him as a proper doctor, now that she's started his seasons in earnest she's glued and bingeing in full force, and thinks he's the best Doctor.
Though she's also pretty annoyed at times with the Moffatiness (and she's almost done with Season 6 so that's going to get worse)

switched back to Fedilab from Trunks, the latter's gotten really weirdly slow, i think there's some issues with the loader not hiding/unhiding properly.
@npub18hc…2l55 if you have any similar bug reports you could check it out? when i start the app it shows the loader unless i refresh once or twice. could be a state variable thing? the APIs are pretty fast, it's my own instance.

been spending some time trying to get nushell working with starship and nerdfetch on my setup. I like fish but i REALLY like nushell, it's something v different from what I'm used to - but nixpkgs does not have any config option for nushell the way it does for, say, bash or fish or zsh.
funny thing is, home-manager does! but i'm not installing that shit, i don't want another service perpetually running
so there is some code i can refer to but there's large gaps

i built my first nix derivation from scratch! the experience was DOGSHIT. it's not enterprise ready at all lmao, i can't even pull from any git repo except a public one ONLY using HTTP, and converting project dependencies to nix-ified dependencies is too much fucking work.

it should not be this difficult to find out how to install something in something that's a package manager! it should not be this confusing to then have to find out that the method that they provide that's similar to stuff like yum and apt is actually NOT the way they've designed the package manager to be used! it took me like 5 hours to actually find arguments online that pointed me to the correct method and how configuration.nix actually even works!

Spent a good amount of time with Nix now and wow is it stupid and irritating.
Sure, I still think it's the next big thing coming to dev projects, but the core team seems to actively abhor logical easy-to-adopt design and make shit roundabout and difficult. Incredibly bad learning curve, high barrier of entry.
Not to mention the documentation, or how fucking bad it is.
