@npub12hk…hl5z :

Why would anybody risk rejection at the airport or worse?
Tourists should avoid the US. End of.
Work trips need very careful consultations and detailed planing. No company should expect its employees to go there in the foreseeable future.
Anybody worried about a holiday in the US?
Willkommen in Deutschland 😊 🇩🇪

How can potential criminals or psychos differentiate between residents and visitors or tourists? And why would they even bother?
Of course there are dangers that mainly affect US citizens. But I generally dislike the gun culture, disrespect for women in a lot of areas and the systemic racism.
I want want my daughter to be safe. And should something terrible happen I want her to have access to healthcare (including abortion). 🫤

I get where you're coming from with you Hitler-Reagan comparison.
Still I am convinced that you simply cannot (and should not) compare the atrocities of Nazi Germany, Stalin, Mussolini, Idi Amin, Pinochet etc. to the mainly economic consequences of Reagonomics.
Might be a German thing to be so sensitive on this. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Apart from the fact that time travel messes with the space-time contiuum.... 😆
When you talk about damage surely Hitler and Stalin are by far the top targets.
Reagan was a disastrous president, always hated his policies (in connection with Thatcher, Kohl etc.) but as far as atrocities go he's not even close to the top 20.
And as far as capitalism and exploiting the worker are concerned that was more down to Göring, not Hitler.

Sounds like a fantastic place to live.... 🤷🏼‍♂️
Interesting sidenote:
My daughter and her friends in secondary school (German 'Gymnasium') are in the 10th year now. In year 11 they have the opiton to go abroad for a couple of months or up to year.
Quite a few named the US as a goal. They quickly found out that they don't wanna go there cause it is too dangerous. Most parents I know wouldn't let them go there (me included).
That is a sad development.

Very interesting stuff. Thanks for sharing.
It is really shocking in how many areas the US seems to be moving backwards. And has been since the mid 80s.
Looking at the health costs and the life expectancy I think I'll stay in Germany. 😊

There is a very fitting German saying for this:

Having a university degree doesn't mean somebody is intelligent in general.
More often people have a certain talent or qualification and lack social skills galore.

What a stupid and totally unrealistic thing to even suggest.
Not the first time Tom Clever demostrated his utter stupidity in public.
And I think I can speak for my Dutch neighbours when I say (as a German):
"Halt einfach deine blöde Fresse, du ungebildeter, arroganter geistiger Tiefflieger!" 😠
Other than that me and my Dutch buddies won't spend more than two seconds worrying about Tom's words.
Oh: "...and the Cotton is high." 😆

Ursula von der Leyen certainly deserves lots of criticism and I don't agree with her on many topics.
But she definitely is no friend of Trump and his cronies.
The Trump administration is gonna find out the hard way that China, the EU (plus other western countries) and more will not like their policies.

Over here in Germany we certainly laugh about DonOld a lot.
His ramblings are totally screwed up, none of his speeches make any sense, his cult followers are stupid beyond words.
Still we are also worried cause lots of US voters fall for the MAGA fascism and right-wing narrative.

As we have similar tendencies here in Germany I'm also thinking about where to potentially go in a few years.
At the moment I prefer Portugal, with Ireland and Canada also on the list.

Quite a big portion of MAGA nutjobs will certainly actively support deportations, concentration camps and violence against minorities.
But I'm conviced that there's also a large part of that group very willing to simply block/ignore these uncomfortable aspects. You need to shock them out of their lazu ignorance.
And I've been to Dachau and some Nazi prisons here in Germany. Terrifying stuff.

You already used the term that I immediately thought of after reading the article:
Kristallnacht 🤬
How so many people can still manage to ignore the fascist threat... beats me.
The MAGA cult might aswell start wearing brown uniforms and swastikas. Maybe then a lot of the ignorance would disappear.
Shocking developments.
