On chain privacy or bust? Bitcoin is just the first mover and so it benefits from network effects. It doesn’t have to be the only tool. It’s just a form of money. If it’s a better form of money than cash or gold then use it. Most people are just trying to keep their heads above water and save in something that isn’t printed into oblivion. Doesn’t seem like it’s a bust if they have that option. Just keep cash along side it if you want privacy. It’s not black and white.

The key to good fire cider is the fermentation. For 6-8 weeks the cider is mixed daily and stored at proper temperature. This brings all of the flavors together so it doesn’t burn the throat but also adds beneficial biotics for gut health.

Yes there is corruption, this is obvious. But this is just for those grasping for power. It’s been proven that about a certain level of wealth that more money is irrelevant to happiness.
You can only control yourself. We are all in the game together but can only move our piece. There are always times we want to quit the game because we think we are losing and lose the plot. But the point of the game is just to play it. This isn’t the first or last game you’ve played and will play. But trying to cheat it will only make the next game harder.
Love unconditionally and use your imagination to create reality. This is the signal. All else is the noise.

I agree with that. The repricing is the tricky part. Not only for a business with repeat customers but when the input costs fluctuate in fiat so frequently. I would prefer to offer goods for whatever value the customer feels they receive from it. This is my version of value for value. Doing this long enough would create a “standard”.

That’s a valid concern and if you didn’t know the guardians personally then it is a risk. I see it more as a solution for local circular economies that scales easier and with less friction than trying to fully orange pill your neighbors since we can all agree not everyone is gonna choose self custody but still should have access and ability to use freedom tech.

I think the whole point is yes you do trust the community bank. Shouldn’t you trust your local community? I know it’s common to be paranoid here about everything but in reality trust is fundamental. If you don’t have enough people you trust locally then you can always create a mint from anonymous parties and put a small amount of spending money in that is now completely private. Seems like a good use case no?

This has been a long evolving trend in art going back to when Duchamp displayed the urinal. Novelty took hold over aesthetics. Part of it I think was the realization that art and design are high skill and shock and awe were much easier. No one could argue that pop art can hold a candle to Caravaggio but it’s much less friction to just create “new” and make a narrative for why it’s better than it is to really create quality. The slow ache of high time preference in all things. Nature never sacrificed aesthetics for function. Neither should we.

Excellent post and my aversion as well. Utility has become the driving force behind aesthetics. Or so they will promote. But anyone looking at the history of architecture knows this doesn’t hold water. Design can enhance wholeness without compromising on function, it just isn’t taught that way any longer and so the discourse has shifted and we’re left with minimalism as “good” instead of beauty.

Maybe this is a controversial take but I think the conversation around bitcoin should be super simple.
It works, and it is a scarce asset that you can access anywhere in the world that cannot be debased.
The infinite discourse that follows this doesn’t make any sense to me.
You can argue nuance till the cows come home but the fact of the matter is it couldn’t be any simpler. Regular people don’t have time and don’t want to research for hours on end about money. No one had to research the properties of gold to know it was valuable.
All you have to know with bitcoin is the supply cannot be increased.
Why drown the world in noise?
It’s not speculating or investing. It’s exactly what money should be.

The only argument here is in the price of fiat though. If the institutions do exactly what you say then we just go back to 2017 prices and the protocol continues as is, just less fiat to convert into. But the value proposition is money that can’t be censored. Both monero and bitcoin work. Why argue over the price of fiat? And if the internet goes out I’m very skeptical that anyone around me would take a “goldback” as a medium of exchange over something tangible like meat or eggs.

I understand your thesis and Agree on a lot of points but also disagree on some others. I disagree that bitcoin is not used as a medium of exchange. Some of us use it only a daily basis and get paid in it as well. It’s not the majority yet because it is still a psychological jump for most to be okay spending something they have conviction will increase in price in the future. The on and off ramps issue is largely irrelevant in the long term in my opinion because both camps would greatly prefer to never have to go back to fiat. So it’s simply a time factor and building out local economies to be self sufficient just using bitcoin or monero as a medium of exchange. I’m not sure the derision between the two camps should even exist as we both want the same things and can certainly coexist. If you think everyone will choose privacy over number go up then you are wrong. And if someone thinks everyone will choose the opposite then you are also wrong. These were never black and white outcomes just as bitcoin likely doesn’t reach reserve status for a long time or if ever. But it doesn’t need to. BTC and monero exist and that’s all we need. Build out your network that you need for your own reality that accepts your coin of choice and you’ve won. Some people prefer cars without chips that can be tracked. Some people prefer cars that will drive themselves and everything possible is tracked. This is human nature. Everyone still chooses cars over walking. Both monero and BTC are vastly superior to fiat. Choose your own adventure. And as an aside, gold is great too but utterly useless as a medium of exchange due to risks of counterfeiting and mobility etc.
