Then your problems are greater than a door that locks electronically and has no grabable handle to be able to open it.
Battery fires are a problem, that should be solved by new sodium/lithium batteries now available. China also developed a system that could eject a battery pack... not sure on it's actual practicality for use though.
But petrol tanks exploding is also still a thing, and that was the cause of an old friends death when she was just 21... a drunk driver ploughed into her head on and her car exploded.
The problem is technology moving faster than legislation... they're only just starting to realise that LED headlights on SUV style cars is becoming a problem... let alone battery fires.

In my late teens and early 20's... so... first half of the 90's. We used to go to a rock club, in one corner they had what was for the era... a giant video wall of CRT TV's in a 4x4 grid.
They used to play pingu episodes all night whilst a few hundred metal heads head banged away on the dance floor.

Had a visitor yesterday, got to spend a lot of time with Ziggy... He is fascinated by my beard... he's also a poser. Loves the camera.
There's something wonderful about sitting back on the sofa, with a puppy on your chest, his front paws either side of your neck and his face snuggled up against your beard... and you look down into those big beautiful eyes staring at you.
I'm definitely becoming his favourite... he makes a bee line for me all the time.

I've officially met the puppy and he's adorable... but more important... he adores me. He couldn't get enough of my beard, snuggling up under my chin. He kept making a bee line for me at every opportunity.
He's being trained too, so I made sure I was given some treats and made him do a few things... sit, lay down, took him for a pee in the garden and so forth.
He's such a good boy, very clever too... but he's a collie... so we knew he was going to be smart.

After 4yrs in storage, I've finally got my original Mathmos Telstar lava lamp out and running. I've had this for 30yrs now, I remember getting it from them on one of my visits to London. The metal could do with a good polish, and it's got a little dent on the back... But it's so much better than all of the cheap knock off ones you see, and I remember being a little kid and loving the one my folks had and always wanted my own.
I replaced the bottle about 10yrs ago, as they don't last forever. But you can still buy original replacements online.
It also uses an incadescent spotlight bulb... So if that fails, I'll have to figure out a replacement as LED won't work.
But for now, got some more peaceful mood lighting in the bedroom.

In my town there are 3 banks left, soon to be 2.
My mum banks with one that's still open, the one I bank with is closing in Sept.
I tried to make an apt for my mum so she could discuss options for a loan as she wants to replace the conservatory and can't afford to pay it all cash.
They offered to make her an apt with some one in the branch.
Then proceeded to tell me, she needed to bring her laptop with her and install zoom for the apt.
I looked at her and said 'she doesn't have a laptop, nor does she use zoom... she's 79yrs old'
She was unable to offer an actual solution that involved... actually making an apt with a person face to face. I left, telling them exactly how stupid and pathetic it was and that the treatment of people without expensive electronic devices, or unable to use them was discriminatory.
I walked around the corner to my bank and made a face to face apt for her with them... and they're the branch that's closing... But because she's not a customer of theirs, they couldn't offer her favourable rates.
My brother in law banks with Barclays... the nearest branch for his is now 35 miles away... in a tourist town with expensive and hard to find parking.
We need legislation that forces banks to participate in banking hubs, so that people have actual access to in person banking on at least 1 or 2 days a week.
Or we continue to punish anyone who can't or won;t participate in the enshitification of everything as 'undesirables'

About 10-11yrs ago, I bought a Wileyfox phone that was built on the Cyanagen fork of android. Far more privacy and security than any android based phone
Sadly, not enough people bought them and a few yrs later, they went out of business.
The OS still exists though, it forked into lineage OS.
But until manufacturers are forced to unlock devices to allow another OS to be installed, these are niche markets that require devices to be jail broken.
Once a device is no longer supported with OS and security updates, the law should dictate that they be unlocked and if a company goes out of business and stops support for devices, they must be made open source so that others can modify them to still be usable.... most devices have a use life long past their 'planned obsolescence'

Based on my limited understanding of the law.
1: If you have the means to pay and it is offered, you have not broken any criminal laws.
2: There are civil laws that would cover it, but these would be very hard to take action on if the following (some or all, I cannot say) criteria has been met.
A: You have legal tender on you and have offered it as payment.
B: You were not implicitly advised that they only took specific types of payments before using their services.
C: You offer them your contact details, so you can return at a later date to pay.
If they call the police, they should be informed it's a civil matter not a criminal one and in no way should you be detained or harassed in anyway, which could be construed as criminal.

Being on the autism spectrum usually means that I'm either several years ahead of seeing what will happen... or I'm utterly clueless to what's going on right in front of me.
I'm either psychic or an idiot... there is no middle ground.

The whole row over this is manufactured bullshit.
They keep banging on about this '1 million' inheritance tax threshold... But when you factor in all of the other allowances and so forth... It only actually applies to farms worth over 2 million.
Which is a tiny proportion of them, and the vast majority of those are controlled by large corporations or the super rich already.
I've seen farmers complaining it will eradicate the £20,000 profits they make in a year.

6yrs ago, I was given a 'test' by the mental health team at my local GP (I've moved twice since then) regarding my 'potential' autism.

Then covid hit, I moved twice and here we are almost 6 full yrs later... still no closer to an actual answer.
So a few yrs ago, I decided that I was just going to accept I was because a psychiatrist I used to know, said I showed all the symptoms, as have other people on the spectrum.
Today I read this article, that says 90% of all people over 50... have never been diagnosed.
The NHS simply doesn't have the resources to deal with between 250-600 thousand cases... or as is more likely, just doesn't give a shit because we're old and serve no useful purpose to society any more.
So I thought, I'd take the Simon Baron-Cohen QA test too.
I scored 38 out of 50. Anything over 33 shows significant autistic traits.
If I can actually find the will to phone my doctors... I'll be mentioning this... along with their utter failure to do anything about it for 6 yrs.
But that's a very big... if. Especially when you have zero number of people in your life who care enough to even bother to try and understand what it means... and expect you to be 100% normal like them.

When I used to do stand up, I had this whole 5 mins around religion and me looking like a fat jesus.

Public Warning.
If you EVER, and I do mean EVER see a QR code for anything... not just some things, ANYTHING.
Treat it as a scam, do not scan it, they can easily be covered up with malicious redirects to fake sites to steal your financial details. Direct you to malware sites to try and infect your device.
Treat them all the same... as toxic, potential harmful to your identity and security.
Never trust them... EVER!!!
If you 100% must use one, do what you should be doing at any (ATM) cash machine, check for devices that have been installed by crooks. See if you can peel the code off, not just at the area around the code, but the whole sign... look for anything unusual and if you have any doubts... even if it's 1% doubt... DON'T USE IT
This isn't scaremongering, scammers and thieves are out there every day, placing fake QR codes on signs all over the place. No where is safe from them. The way to win is not to play. Don;t buy into the enshitification of everything, don;t be told that you can ONLY do it one specific way (legally they have to offer more than one way to pay for a service).
Please boost and spread the word.

I'll be deactivating the mastodon.social account... that was clearly a huge mistake, it's so bad there... I felt swamped by ads, spam... if i wanted to be deluged with crap, I'd have used facebook.
I am sorry to be leaving mastodonapp.uk as it's been a fun almost 2yrs there. but the unreliability of the instance these last couple of months left me concerned for it's survival. I have the utmost respect for the admins who run these instances, and have and will continue to donate when possible.
Hopefully, I won't lose too many people in the move. So far it looks like I'm down about 5-10% of follows & followers.
I'll continue using the same hashtags as before, so you should be able to find old posts of mine easily enough.
