I'm not advocating this. Yes, that is absurd.
People have their entire life savings in this tech. Core acts with callous indifference, and outright mockery. That is a problem for a cornerstone project.
They do indeed owe it to the Bitcoin community to thoroughly, and repeated explain themselves. Who do they work for? What's the point of being a Core dev if you don't give a fuck about the community, education and consensus.
The larger Bitcoin gets, the more people depend on it, the slower development must become - and the amount of time spent on education must rise to match the audience. You no longer just move fast and add features or change things without thoroughly explaining yourself.

Yeah.
Green threads are also not that useful on the client.
You often need to do operations on particular threads (eg macOS forces the main thread to b white GUI thread).
In cases where thread identity matters goroutines get in the way.
If Go had a way to drop into manual memory management for a block of code I’d be down with that.

I think Go is great.
I've used it for a similar duration. But I've come to realize it's significant flaws. It doesn't bring me joy anymore.
I think you're misunderstanding Odin, it's Go but with more consistent syntax, and lower-level control.
No GC, but instead allocators and full control over memory.
I'll respond to you a bit more in depth because I find this interesting.

That's curious. Go and Odin both derive from Pascal.
In my mind :: for constant binding is far more consistent with := style variable binding.
Go gives you := without the true grammar behind it, which is <ident> : <type> = <expr>, where the type is simply inferred in the common case.
Perhaps :: gives you flashbacks to Cpp and Rust, which use it in a totally different way.

I'm not really sure if you're talking about Go or Odin here.
Odin lets you define iterators as *any* procedure that returns a value and a boolean. This is vastly more ergonomic and simply compared to Go's new yield-callback iterators.
Odin's loop syntax is "for v, k in iterable". No range keyword.
Here's an example of how easy it is to define iterators and use them.

I think most uses of interfaces a poor. Interfaces should be for the boundaries of subcomponents, rather than the default abstraction. Most things don't need to be polymorphic. You pay a large penalty for that with boxing and indirection.
An interface reduces to a function pointer + a data pointer. You can achieve any interface you want with that.
Odin has no "interface" concept built in, yet interfaces are used easily, such as with IO streams and allocators.

The channel (threadsafe queue) concept is fantastic, and is replicated in most languages these days. Rust, Zig, and Odin all have channels, though Zig doesn't ship it in the core library.
Go popularized the idea and baked in syntax for it, but it's not like you have to use Go to get channels.
I think Go is decent, and its small language footprint is usually to its benefit.
I also think that Odin does a great job at improving on the aesthetics underlying Go's design.
Anyway, that's just my thoughts these days!

Fantastic.
I would add that fiat is actually the wrong term.
The free market *might* have room for an inflationary money, which wouldn’t be considered fiat.
What makes for fiat is the coercion underlying it.
You could technically have Bitcoin by fiat - nation state demands that commerce accepts it and taxes are paid in it.
We conflate fiat with inflation because they have always gone hand-in-hand.
The idea that power would voluntarily resist the urge to print (to arb the Cantillon effect) is both theoretically unlikely and empirically never happened.

I think Go was specifically designed to require less context by the reader, and that is likely to help out with LLMs.
Have you checked out Odin?
It’s even better than Go in this regard. It’s highly consistent. Maybe the most readable language I’ve come across.
It’s not so great with LLMs though due to low training data.

It doesn’t change the fact that this is a category shift from not being able to store plaintext images directly on the blockchain, to being able to do so trivially.
Arguing margins is irrelevant in the face of a category shift.

Bitcoiners tend to be optimistic people.
You need to believe in paradigm shifts. That the solution is true and not just a mirage designed to manipulate you.
You need to have a large degree of vision, openness and faith. This is why Bitcoin attracts a lot of Christians. They are familiar with employing faith.
Many people are trapped in bottomless jaded cynicism - and rightly so! In many ways the world has conspired against you. The manipulation and lies of the world can seem endless.
Be careful. Too much cynicism and you will refuse to accept that a “solution” to the control system can even exist in the first place.
At a deep emotional level you refuse to believe something true can exist.
That something worthy of hope will actually fulfil its promise, rather than being used as the carrot you can never reach.
Such people believe Bitcoin to be nothing more than the honey pot of an intelligence agency, or a Ponzi scheme, or both.
That even if Bitcoin is true, at least I wasn’t mislead and manipulated! At least I wasn’t scammed.
The eternal pessimist will miss Bitcoin.
Be careful what your cynical side can cost you.

The simple argument against veganism: by providing animal husbandry we can give animals a good life, in exchange for their produce. This is a win-win for humanity and the animal.

But they synthesise the wrong principles from it (that humans are bad for consuming).

Society has encoded valuable ideas that we should conserve, yet some ideas are wrong or incomplete and should be progressed.
In recent history progressivism has been overstimulated in society due to the perception of infinite wealth via government debt.
This perception increases risk taking and experimental behaviours as we perceive a large safety margin to tolerate the risk.
However this perception is a façade. Resources are indeed finite, and the safety margin is much smaller than it seems.
As we transition to a hard money standard, we will see a trend back toward conservatism.
There’s a delicate balance between tradition and change that we cannot regulate effectively while under delusions of “infinite” money.

Hatred is immensely important for protecting what you value.
For instance, if you didn’t hate evil, you would let in into your life and it would destroy what you love.

Hard Money prevents war as we’ve known it.
All wars in modern history are funded through coercion.
If the US had to beg its citizens to contribute $10k per year to fund a “retaliatory invasion”, people would have to truly confront their rage as a personal cost. Most would abate.
It would give those who disagree with the war a way to truly cast their vote and keep their conscience clean by simply refusing to pay.
It would put the burden of the war directly on the shoulders of the warmongers. Put your own money where your mouth is, not mine.
Soft Money lowers the friction for theft to basically zero. Even if you refused to pay taxes, they would just print the money. They don’t need your permission. In fact, they get to pass off inflation as a market phenomenon, blaming “greedy” market actors for “price gouging”.
This is how Bitcoin stops war.

Bitcoin has technically changed over time yes, but it's identity is clear. Bitcoin having changed over time doesn't mean that any additional change is valid.
The appeal is not to the exact written text of the white paper, but to the explicit identity of the technology. It is a cash system. That's why people like it, that's why people use it. In terms of storing and transmitting multi-media, there's much more appropriate and better ways.
This mirrors the legal concept known as the "spirit of the law": the meaning of the law when it was written. Following the law literally can sometimes violate the spirit in which is was written.
The spirit of Bitcoin is as the title of the paper suggests. If we wind up going from a "cash system" to "multi-media system", we've made a wrong turn. Putting multi media on Bitcoin simply because you can is violating the spirit of Bitcoin.
To use a crude analogy:
You could encode image data into a series of electronic bank transfer "reference" fields by breaking it up into tiny chunks and making a lot of transfers. It's obvious to anyone that this is not the point of those fields. Violating the intent of the system is how we categorize "hacks" from proper use.
Appealing to the identity of a bank as a "financial institution" is not invalidated by the mere fact that banking has evolved over time or that people can hack it.

By removing the ability for Bitcoin Core clients to self-configure the OP_RETURN limit, Core devs are actually censoring those who wish to apply the filters (by their own definition of censorship).
If we didn't have Knots already available, we would have to scramble to build a new client. One that actually provides us with the ability to express our opinion over what happens on our hardware and mempools.
It's clear that Core isn't anti-censorship, but ironically pro-censorship.
They do not want you to even have the ability to set the filter. That is top-down decision making from a position of power.
What, are they afraid of the free-market? No! Because they literally cite the free-market to support their position. This is philosophically incongruent.
Alas, people don't seem to grasp what censorship actually is. Individuals not wanting to listen to other individuals is ostracism, not censorship.
Censorship is when power silences speech, not when individuals ignore speech.
I am not obligated to have any given transaction in my mempool, therefore I retain the right to ostracise whatever transactions I dislike.
If you think that's harmful to the network, then you can put in the work to convince me to adjust my filters - not rush through an update that completely takes away my ability to even have a filter.

This feels like "death of the author". Bitcoin's identity is plain and clear: "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System". This is not actually up for debate. If you want a generic P2P messaging system, then build or use one (not the thing self-identifying as a "cash system").
To reduce Bitcoin to a "messaging system" is a category error. Language is a messaging system, but it's not Bitcoin. Fiat is a messaging system, but it's not Bitcoin. Nostr is a messaging system, but it's not Bitcoin. You get the point.
Reducing cars and planes to the category "vehicle" serves only to muddy the waters when figuring out the best way to travel to your local grocer or 12000km over an ocean.

CSAM on Bitcoin is everyone’s problem.
You would have to have that material in plaintext on your device as your node validates it.
With nostr this is not the case. Nostr doesn’t have a blockchain that you _must_ download, with plaintext blobs you _must_ process. You can avoid it.
Three additional points:
1. Bitcoin is a monetary network. It shouldn’t be polluted with multimedia at all.
2. Centralised and regulated platforms also have this material on them.
3. Nostr relays have the option to detect and deny illicit material, just like a regulated and centralised platform.

Censorship is a top-down phenomenon, where information is suppressed by power.

Quantum threatens the entire digital world.
Your cash in the bank (and much, much more) would be just as under threat (or more so) than Bitcoin.
Bitcoin however, already has proposals for quantum resistant cryptography and the community is actively concerned and preparing.
If the quantum threat occurs, Bitcoin will shine as the quantum resistant digital money while everything else gets hacked.
