I started looking at laptops for Linux to wean me off of my Mac.
The plan being to sell my M1 Air, and a 2018 Mac mini, and a few other things to fund it. Retain my Mac Studio for builds, but use the laptop full time.
It’s tricky, because I want the build quality of a Mac, or close to. High resolution display. Compatible with Linux. And ideally for sale via a retailer in NZ so I don’t have to navigate import duty and am covered by our consumer law.

My dislike of the previous owners of this house only increases with every fix and DIY job we do.
Some of the decisions made were quite silly. Some just daft.
There’s not a job the old guy couldn’t find a use for a square headed screw for. Even the old cat flap had them in it… I’m triggered now every time I find one in a strange place 🤦‍♂️😂

It’s rare I encounter the reply-guy phenomenon, but, posting a photo of myself in my Airinum mask to social media seemed to get that response.
I’ve figured out why though. I’m just too darn pretty. My eyelashes above the mask. It elicits a feeling these guys don’t understand and they can’t help themselves 💅 😂

Sending $ to organisations that are supporting vulnerable communities. I did a little of this during the BLM protests, and it felt like the least I could do.

Maybe.
Whatever it is, it probably shouldn’t be utopian. It should show the work ahead, the work that will be necessary.
The changes are going to happen quicker than we’d like and their fixes are going to take longer than any generation has.
I want to see stories of how this work can be done, I think.

Thinking about climate change, and story telling. I remember that in the tv series FireFly, they refer to “earth that was”.
The thing about being in my 40s, is that I remember bits of “earth that was”. I know things have changed in my lifetime. I also remember my dad telling me about the changes he’d seen from the 60s-90s when I was a kid.
We will tell stories of the older days, and it’s going to sound unreal to the generations that don’t know otherwise.
“Earth that was” is a distant planet

If the only mitigation you’re taking is staying up to date with vaccinations, and you’re capable of doing more, you’re not pulling your weight in all this.
Wear a mask to the supermarket in solidarity with those who already know they’re vulnerable.
Look up anti viral nasal sprays.
Do social activities in the open air.
Push for air filtration in the offices and schools you use.
Do more than fuck all.

If your view is that cities are dying because of WFH, and you’re prepared to strong arm employees “back to the office”, but you have taken zero activity to make those offices safer against COVID and airborne viral transmission… you’re pushing eugenics.
If you’re happy to see everyone maskless again at events, and doing zero to mitigate COVID, you’re happy to see folks disabled by the virus you’re ignoring.

Things I have done today:
* Planted herbs into a container for our deck. These were cuttings I took at the end of summer that have now rooted and are doing well
* Buzzed down the weeds in my raised beds + scattered bird seed for green mulch that I will buzz down when veggies go in
* Planted sugar snap peas into the ground, and trained one that had self-seeded from last summer around a wire
* Sowed sweet corn, and Marigold seeds in trays

@npub142w…n2y5 yup sleep has been the worst. What I’ve had has (eventually, 2 years in) been diagnosed as peripheral nerve damage, likely from the initial infection and my body’s immune system going ballistic.
Gabapentin is giving me some relief now; but I do keep getting breakthrough flares unfortunately every other week or so 😬
Re: the Groundhog Day/lockdown effect as I personally feel it, it’s hard work. I can only say that for me, connecting with the nature helps when that gets bad

* Late stage capitalism
* racism
* ableism
* social pressure and inertia
* People individually opting out of social responsibility
On that last point. If you can mitigate, but choose not to because of “the vibes”, you’re not pulling your weight.

This is because it is a virus that really damages your immune system. It is constantly mutating, due to being highly contagious and people not taking mitigation measures seriously.

The reality:
* COVID impairs cognitive function, and this can happen even in “mild” cases in otherwise healthy people
* COVID causes organ damage, and this can also happen with “mild” infection
* Its damage is cumulative. The more infections you have, the more likely it is that you may become permanently disabled by it
* It is not seasonal, and summer waves aren’t just something to get used to
