Curious if they gave it to their friends on a shitty exchange like coinbase though. When gifting bitcoin, it always is better to go straight to a self hosted wallet. And heck, make it a 1 of 2 multisig (and make it clear what that means!) if you're worried your friend will fumble their keys.
