Exactly. Strike is a useful tool for bridging between USD and Bitcoin, but it should not be the main way someone uses lightning when there are solid self-custody options, and even no-kyc custodial options, readily available.

Ummm, I am no shill for Mallers but he probably knows how lightning works pretty intimately, because, long before he ever started Strike, he built Zap wallet, which was a pretty early self-custody lightning wallet.

ok, just reading the transcript it sounds like Saylor tweeted Bitcoin "has no spam problem" because fees are still ~30 cents.
I can see how from an economic perspective that's the case.
My take on Saylor's reticence is that Strategy is sailing in our waters. The tail can't wag the dog even if he tried, and that's how it should work. If Strategy could bend the whole bitcoin network by a tweet or supporting a protocol change, their whole investment thesis in bitcoin as "pristine" would be null.
So the message is "nothing is wrong with bitcoin". It's probably the best public announcement possible for them.
Because nothing IS wrong with bitcoin. The whole "angry cyber-hornets" nest is alive and buzzing even if the mempool looks vacant.
Mechanic's point is that the mempool is empty is a symptom of a problem and not that a sign that there is no problem: impossible to know one way or the other and impossible for Saylor or Mechanic to change.
Mechanic should realize that Saylor didn't attack him, and he's basically attacking Saylor. The truth is, we are all acquisition vehicles for someone else, since we don't live forever.
I'm sure he's tired of personal attacks, but his point of the ETFs being a better vehicle than Strategy is his opinion.
I don't know how he concludes that from 1 tweet or from getting his feelings hurt.
anyway, it's great to have 1 more bold charismatic leader in bitcoin. It's also good that they maintain an antagonistic.
Dot Krueger has an interesting take on BIP110 as being a system test for eventual quantum updates to bitcoin. Bitcoin is being tested for how upgrades happen on a decentralized network. I'm definitely delving into more of BIP110 from this angle:
