I agree with the first part, as a matter of principle. But the public has to know there's something to apply pressure over. And for example, getting the public to accept the existence of Rape and torture gangs is hard enough as it is.
As for a "might makes right" society ? I'm not so sure about that. Yes it can happen, but so can one where that type of behaviour is properly contained and acts witin rules (think chivalric code of conduct)
Ultimately the state has the monopoly on violence. That's a monopoly that needs to end.

You're right, of course.
Everywhere else, recipients of value are the majority funders of the value delivered to them; when your electrician fixes your wiring, you pay him for it. Some portion of his current place in the industry and education level was socialized out a bit, but it's a rounding error compared to the direct payments.
But because software can be built once and used by many people, nobody feels that they need to be The One to pay for it. And they're not wrong in that... If it can be copied, it can't be owned; and if it can't be owned, its value drops considerably to the marginal enjoyment or utility it brings you _while using it_.
...So maybe what we're uncovering is that for all the hype and glitter, we actually don't **really** find the current crop of internet/software THAT valuable nor truly enjoyable. It's a bit of a fun goof here and there.
I do believe that'll change as the synergistic effects of open protocol pieces working together starts to yield truly society-altering experiences.

i wouldn't agree there only because umbrel or start9 with tor makes it incredibly easy to run many services. running a public facing blossom server means you're going to need to do port forwarding, punching holes in firewalls, getting an SSL cert, and a domain name. it's a bit more complex.
