These worked under imperfect leaders and governments. Durable technical standards, data-driven metrics, and aligned incentives (or penalties) matter more than the wisdom of any Hierarch. When leaders are incompetent, captured, or systematically dishonest, politicized rules tend to produce costs without benefits, regulatory capture, or enforcement failures. Aviation and milk rules persisted because they were grounded in observable engineering and public-health outcomes rather than continuous political whim. Global coordination is harder when powerful actors face competitive pressures (e.g., dual-use technologies) or when one major player can free-ride or defect.
Brad Smith’s milk/washing-machine/airplane comparisons highlight products with relatively bounded risks, established failure modes, and slower iteration. AI differs: software can be dual-use, updates rapidly, and the relevant “failure modes” (misalignment, misuse, competitive dynamics with China) are less like a contaminated milk carton or a plane crash. Evidence-based technical standards and liability rules can still matter; broad pre-approval regimes or rules that slow innovation without clear safety gains face the usual risks of bureaucratic failure. Self-regulation has limits; so does government hierarchy when the hierarchy is unreliable. The historical record shows selective successes under the right conditions, not a general proof that more regulation is better.

It is all fine and understandable with a new application. But I would relate updates with former shortcomings. So I would prefer to have applications that update rarely, because thay are already great as they are. (as an ideal)
I find it funny, that there are people, that like when apps have many updates 😂✌️
