As well as the stress testing in the pagoda style buildings, they tested weapons against air pressure in a centrifuge, and water in a big pool.

Small history lesson: Orford Ness was used to test what would trigger nuclear weapons. The third photo is a building where personnel could observe whether or not a bomb went off in a testing structure. The pagoda-like building was designed so the pillars would blow out and bring down the tons of shingle on the roof in the event of an explosion.
