I swear, the best feature YouTube could add would be a way to hide the "comment" box until the user has watched 𝑥% of the video first.

This means that the concept of "base load" is not really relevant, because there is no consistent base. And when the residual load goes negative, the wholesale price of electricity goes negative as well.
Last year the Netherlands had negative wholesale electricity prices for about 7% of the year, and that amount is only going to grow.
You can't afford to run a nuclear reactor when electricity prices are negative, but you also can't shut it down every day either.

Since releasing my oil video I've had so many people claiming that renewables will never work and we need nuclear power instead.
What's odd is that almost all of the messages mention that nuclear power is the only solution for the "base load".
I have a degree in Electrical Engineering and I took several nuclear science electives. I like nuclear energy. But I received so much "base load" gaslighting that I started to doubt my own understanding of the situation.

I was doing some research for a video and randomly came across this image from GM, which was on a page to promote the benefits of electric vehicles.
This image is obviously photoshopped, but look at this place. It's prime waterfront land, directly across the river from a city, and it's being shown as a featureless asphalt surface.
Even in their "optimistic" visions of the future, car companies' vision for cities is shit.

a great example of this is the infamous "15-Minute Cities" conspiracy, which was started by an anti-climate change group:

Nice! Day Pass is very different than Not Just Bikes. It's more of a view of what the city is actually like, rather than a critique. You may still enjoy it though!

It was ridiculous that Polymarket claimed to be anything other than a gambling company. I'm glad Dutch regulators aren't stupid enough to fall for that.
I especially hate it when people call them a "prediction market". They don't "predict" anything, any more than a traditional bookie "predicts" the outcome of a horse race.
Of course Polymarket is even worse than traditional gambling, because it's so easy for insiders to game it.

Also it's not true that "few creators have exclusives or pre-releases". The majority of Nebula creators have some kind of exclusives and release their videos early there, and more than half of the views on Nebula are for exclusive content.
Nebula is very quickly becoming a streaming service for high-quality documentaries and TV shows, but with a lot more creativity than the big streaming platforms.

Thanks for the info! They actually handle VAT properly! Patreon is one of the few platforms I've seen that does that.
I'm not sure I want to take on a different payment platform though, as it's difficult to get people to move over.
They also take a higher % cut than Patreon.
Right now, Nebula is my platform of choice for support. Yes, it's American, but it's owned by creators (including me) and not VCs, so I have more faith that it won't enshittify over time.

It's also very typical conservative thinking that the situation, as it exists today, is unchangeable and fundamental.
The idea that only wealthy people live autoluw today may be true. But it's much more likely to be because autoluwe neighbourhoods are so desirable that there isn't enough supply, so the price is high, pricing out everyone else.
Which clearly points to the need to build more of them to meet demand!

Car-centric suburbs are notoriously unequal. The idea that autoluw would be moreso is bollocks. And I refuse to take anybody seriously who claims that cars are going to be "clean". Right. Any day now, I'm sure. 🙄

I wouldn't include the Frans Halsbuurt in this list.
I've shown this neighbourhood dozens of times in my videos. It's a great redesign, but it's not autoluw; they've just removed street parking.
These are new, car-free or autluwe neighbourhoods that I've linked to that are quite a bit different.

As well as Houthavens in Amsterdam, which is already mostly built, with the last few buildings being completed this year.
I've shown the car-free streets of Houthavens a few times in my previous videos, but I haven't filmed anything there since 2022, so it might be time for another visit ... and possibly a video about new autoluwe neighbourhoods in the Netherlands?

I've been waiting for construction to start on this neighbourhood for a while! I've had it on my list of topics for videos for years, but these things take time.

I think a lot of Americans assume that when Trump is gone, all of this will be better. But the rot goes much deeper than that.
This has proven to the world that when an American president wants to burn down everything, the rest of the political establishment will just let them do it.

I remember when the DMCA was first being proposed and I was trying to tell anyone and everyone that anti-circumvention would be disastrous. I must admit that I had no idea how bad it would be.
