Or is this just confusion over your non self-hosted free offering now using chatmail by default?

@nprofile…52hs I appreciate you clarifying for the readers and passerby that your OP was not based on legal precedent and/or respect for law - that's an important clarification. It also "explains" why you expect a popular vote for every statute/code you have to follow in a society with your peers. It also means that you are basically posting pipe dreams to Mastodon while cleverly cloaking them with business talk, legalese, and all the while having no intention to hold authentic dialogue unless people submit to your non-existent constructs. I'll definitely make sure to not pounce on the red meat next time now that you've made your perspective clear. For the sake of your customers and or clients, I do hope you actually retain or use proper counsel in your business affairs. Unfollowed and muted accordingly. 🤙🏼

You’re conflating big corporations weaponizing copyright law with small creators fighting to own the actual output of their labor. You’re also conflating copyright in expressive works (e.g., songs) with ordinary services and wage labor that do not fix a protectable work of authorship—e.g. a janitor’s job, which is work-for-hire employment, not a copyrightable composition. You’re additionally conflating both of the above with writing code, which sits between them: source code is generally protected as a literary work in its expression (which can be enforced via licensing), while algorithms, ideas, and methods of operation which are not.
So-called intellectual property law has flaws. But treating AI companies’ uncompensated scraping and generation of derivative works as just another case of “copyright is bad” is unpaid PR for non-FLOSS AI firms (and most prop too) and the bootleggers who ride with them. It's also just inaccurate. Handing over the master keys so they can monetize everyone else’s creative work for free is theft. You may disagree and think your business classes taught you this is fact/truth, but you don’t decide for other people, and you don’t override laws that emerged from consensus and time, beginning as far back as the early 18th century. It's also sloppy, with respect, to reify multiple different forms of work integrity and protections - not to mention legal concepts - as abuse or exercise of power, coercion, and or control.

📜 Going live now to setup nextcloud (including a self-hosted mail server) and after that a gitlab. These will be public registration offerings. I really hope to go live later today - progress has been slow as the link-tree'esque service page took surprisingly long.
🍿 This means it is also a door dash day (sorry, not sorry) as I will maximize output by having some lovely local food delivered. Although I wish there was floss-based infra for food delivery, I am nevertheless impressed that DoorDash does food trucks and local hole in the wall places.

✍️ We are pleased to announce that we secured this excellent condition used GPU for the PeerTube instance. After @nprofile…g28y traveled up to Brown Rice Data Center and installed it and passed it through to the virtualized PT, Lord @nprofile…uqtp took care of customizing the JSON for the ffmpeg logic and did some tinkering under the hood so that PT would be efficient in its choices. Efficient hardware AV1 transcoding is now live.
💡 We still have slots open for registration and the quoted post below shows our starting quotas and limits. More is available upon request or for justified use-cases. As a reminder, the GNUTube requires members to be posting either floss content and/or for supporting floss organizations. Linux gamers and benchmarkers are also welcome.

For my shop machine, I'm now actively testing Debian 14 Testing w/ Xlibre and SonicDE. So far, so good. I use this machine for client work and it also gets to be my guinea pig for testing drawing tablet workflows. Both native Xlibre (via wacom) and Gaomon's proprietary driver work. I'm impressed with how snappy SonicDE is - first time using it today. Great work folks‼️

Cockpit was developed primarily for managing virtual machines and/or containers ... providing shell access to both and integration w/ AD, LDAP, etc., for easy configuration. Webmin is a legacy system's administration tool and abstraction of the entire OS. The only overlap between them is process management and logging, which both platforms require but for different purposes/goals.

@npub15lr…p2vs I prefer the Caja file manager, but I gave up a year ago on integrating it properly. But yeah, caja, from the Trisquel project is the best balance of form and function imho.
