No computer tinkering this weekend for me as I'm babysitting three of my grandchildren at their house in Peterhead. On the plus side they wanted MacDonald's last night and MacDonald's messed the order up as I discovered once it arrived. So I complained and the gave us another complete order too. The kids were well chuffed and stuffed. 🤣

Yeah it is a little disheartening as I realise that I'm no developer. I'm just a user trying to get by and learn more. Not sure how I feel about continuing the OpenBSD journey at the moment but I'll not throw my toys out of the pram just yet.

Well not snapshots as in backup but if you run -current then you get daily developer updates ( snapshots ) with new features that sometimes can break the system temporarily. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Thanks, I really don't like giving in until all avenues have been exhausted. Fingers crossed I win but in the meantime it's still use able and I have FreeBSD on my ThinkPad too.

I really like OpenBSD but this is a real doozer of an issue as I cannot understand why I cannot get past #473 but I can roll back further in time without issue. I mat well end up doing a reinstall but will wait it out for so long.
In the meantime as FreeBSD was still installed on the laptop I thought I'd see if it would break as not been touched in over a month but no it upgraded and patched perfectly well. In fact it was rock solid! Maybe somebody is trying to tell me something ?????

Still trying to debug my #OpenBSD desktop as to why I can run any snapshot from the 13th May and before but not progress to today's date or after #473 ?? boot just fails at 255 error unknown.
Bugs have been submitted and i'll wait and see before thinking about a reinstall.
In the meantime I'm on my ThinkPad p14s Gen 1 which I was waiting for OpenBSD 7.9 to install on it but for now I upgraded #FreeBSD and everything works. Not bad considering I've not touched this laptop for a month or so. 💪:beastie:

I have a photo here as it fails when trying to boot /bsd or `/bsd.mp'
No matter what mp kernel after #473 they all do the same for me.

It has to be a bsd.mp kernel issue on the amd64 as I just copied the bsd.mp from the latest 19th May into my root dir and rebooted. I cannot boot the latest kernel bsd.mp from my running #473 setup but I can boot bsd which is obvs the last working multi processor kernel that worked for my Dell Optiplex 3080 Tower with an i5-10505 CPU.
Can someone please convey my issues to the devs on #OpenBSD ????

This is weird! If i doas sysupgrade -s from #473 it will not boot /bsd which should be the bsd.mp , It just gives error 255 unknown. So I had previously downloaded the latest ( 19th May ) from snapshot bsd.mp and copied it to the root dir / . Then rebooted and tried to boot /bsd.mp but it too fails with error 255 unknown. I can downgrade to #473 or even before that and the sysupgrade process goes fine. What is going on ???? #OpenBSD

I'm actually convinced that my issue of not being able to doas sysupgrade -s past #473 is an issue with either the upgrade script or the bsd.mp kernel. I mean if it was a configuration issue explain to me how I can successfully rollback to 473 dated 14th May or even further back and the mp kernel boots perfectly. No partitions are anywhere near full. Yet if I upgrade the mp kernel will not boot just giving an error 255 unknown.
So in my eyes this is an #OpenBSD current issue because if it was mine then rolling back wouldn't work either ???

OMG ! I just cannot doas sysupgrade -s past #473 which is dated 13th May. If I try it just refuses to boot /bsd using the bsd.mp`
I have to rollback to #473 - 13th May to get a bootable system using my Dell Optiplex 3080 tower with 32Gb ram a 1Tb nvme and an i5-10505

FYI Changing my mirror to Oxford helped with the autoinstaller issue but on upgrade it still will not boot /bsd so I have to rollback to the 14th May update and all is fine again.
Very strange indeed.

Everything is as it should be and the fact that I can rollback to the 14th May snapshot and it runs perfectly means today's snapshot has an issue.

So today on #OpenBSD snapshot dramas. I obvs am successfully running on the 14th May #473 snapshot so today run doas sysupgrade -s and it downloads today's snapshot and then runs the upgrade but then this comes up on screen and it reboots and tries the uograde kernel again until I tell it to boot /bsd
Things are going on in OpenBSD dev land and I can't see anything in the mailing lists ? Also what the fsck is an ai.log ????
