i wish there was more that could be done about cpu bottlenecks in games and things. with gpus you can often dial things down to Doom 2 visuals to deal with a lack of vram or whatever but cpu bottlenecks frequently feel like 'time to get rearchitecting bucko' territory

@nprofile…3q9y ah in my case just a flat floating quad somewhere in my FoV. there are ways (with WayVR on linux, i think other overlay systems can do similar) to perform 3D recompositing with like side-by-side stereo output, but that needs the game to be able to output like that
ALTHOUGH. the niceness of the effect has got me wondering about trying to recreate it in 3D in Resonite, because it seems simple and nice and it looks great and "stochastic transparency" looks fun to try and recreate

helped a friend a bit add a mode to their kitty avatar where they go "rawr" and all their fur puffs out
had a moment of "hey what if.." and in about 10 minutes work they now foompf out a cloud of fur when they do + leave a little trail behind as they scamper around

@nprofile…mv7s that would be extremely ideal if ONNX had a provider for it -- there's an open bug/feature request to that end circa 2022. but at this point it requires leveraging a compute-hardware-specific execution provider (CUDA, ROCm/MiGraphX, or something more specific for odd/embedded hardware)

my next AMD GPU project is ROCm/MiGraphX to try and accelerate eye and face tracking and i am reminded i
hate the python ecosystem's management of dependencies
hate the nightmare of getting ONNX hardware acceleration going
hate that CUDA/ROCm/compute toolkits are like 30GB on disk

@nprofile…mv7s yes, and it was abjectly miserable. after almost two decades of Debian exclusivity, i gave Arch a shot for a bit because I was initially under the impression that VR on Linux benefited from maximally up-to-date everything.
graphics drivers and VR-specific userspace tooling certainly does, but turns out I can just build all that on Debian stable/testing without much fuss. which is great because having to reboot every 36 hours was infuriating. to say nothing of the constant DDoS attacks on the SPoF that is AUR

i'm looking for a custom original half life map i once developed a strong emotional attachment to, i want to recreate it as a hangout spot in resonite
i am probably misremebering bits of it but
it was a tiny map, i think set up as a very small deathmatch map, of a small square office building with an open center courtyard. the inside was well-lit and furnished with various pickups and notably that green sort of 70s cloth/felt texture on things iirc. the building was all internally connected so you could run a lap around the inside. there was no exit to any outside except for the center courtyard, which was open to the dusk/night sky -- and, notably, it was raining
this map was, i think, a small demo built up mostly to demonstrate weather effects. i was learning hammer at the time and ended up spending significant time in this map just Vibing to the ambiance. i have no idea how to find it anymore
i could totally do a recreation by memory but it'd be amazing to find the original

@nprofile…mv7s i have a cheap version of those somewhere, and a much higher OD/deeper-oranger pair for incidental exposure to germicidal UV mercury lamps -- the latter are too aggressive to see any of the fluorescence i'm looking for. i gotta find the former
i wouldn't trust 'em to anything laser-shaped but they're prob fine for the intermittent bathroom-gawking and stain-finding this light is for. plus I know my prescription glasses do quite a lot to block UV, but neither have good wraparound coverage

@nprofile…mv7s it is almost certainly input power. looking at some 365nm COB modules, I'm seeing rough efficiencies in the 17-18% range. so that'd still be .. idk, 5W of UV output?
I would entirely believe this is in "I should minimize my exposure to this for any significant duration of time, lest I fog my eyes up" intensity territory
