I might nerd a bit building a free software solution to help projects have democratic governance. I noticed most projects have tried to leverage GitHub or Discourse forums for that, but they were never meant for that. For example, imagine voting for the features that you’d like to see the most.

A lot of the insanity that we see in the software, open source or not, comes from the obsession for hyper-growth. Hyper-growth blinds companies and projects, and you, the person who has been using the project for years, are not really taken into account anymore.

in our particular case, a tool for large companies building apps for Apple platforms, if we MIT-licensed the part that we are building to secure funding for the project, we’d have a hard time building a small source of reveulnue. So I wonder if the story would be different if the market was another one and larger.

I amazed by how Ghost managed to build a financially viable open source project with an MIT licensed. What do you think was key in that?
- The size of the market?
- The chunk of the market that’s willing to pay for hosting?
- Its marketplace of themes?
