I tossed the old bag of mung beans in the compost pile because they weren't sprouting well. 🙄 #gardening #compost #cooking

I think I got myself on watch lists when New Orleans started charging for the Canal Street ferry. I called everyone from the city council up to my senator and the coast guard. I spoke at the "public Input" and nothing helped.

My little Travis as a street waif two days before I trapped her and took her home. Via bus. I had naan in my bag. This is why she is now such a carb fiend. #catsofmastodon

What happens in Star Trek if you're on a ship and you get fired? It's the ultimate company town. Do you lose your quarters? Are there even any "civilian" jobs available? On DS9 you could just go work for Quark or Garak.

In between knitting socks for my father I managed a pair for myself. Same brand of yarn but only one skein of each. They will be in boots. Pattern is Treppenviertel. #knitting #knittersOfMastodon

Try The Twentieth Wife by Inda Sundaresan. Only 14 hours but the first of a trilogy. The patient part is in the book where people who love one another are apart *for YEARS* 😭😭😭.

I was able to make a concrete step today. I got my passport application in at the local post office. The other concrete step I'm taking is removing all news applications from my phone and closing this browser tab for a few days. I have been unable to get much sleep or eat much with the constant stress. I'll be back for #Caturday and #knittersOfMastodon but for my own physical and mental health I have to take a break.

And he got quite the return on his investment, making 26 BILLION DOLLARS in the day after the election.
Which would take me over 850,000 years to earn.

Strangely there are areas of the country where rice just isn't a thing. 🤷 I might not eat rice every day but it will be at least a few times a week. Four years in Okinawa while young put me squarely on that path. Then, as an adult, I've learned different types of Indian cuisine. South Louisiana, where I lived for decades, is very much a rice culture. I can't imagine being without rice. I live alone and have ~ 50# of rice in the house right now. Maybe more.

When large amounts of rice are cooked at places like a cafeteria it is often like that. Many times it is boiled like pasta and drained. Then held in a steam table or hot box. 🤮

I feel like I am going to be stressed, wired, agitated, sleeping poorly, and grouchy like nobody's business for the next five days. (Probably longer than that. 😬)

Musk has spent $132 million to elect Trump. That is clearly money that he doesn't need to support his lifestyle. It would take me over four thousand years to earn that much money (gross pay at current hourly rate). This is obscene.

And it will take years (if ever) for these people and places to recover. Their lives are now "before Helene" and "after Helene".
I lived in New Orleans from 1989-2021. There is definitely a dividing line.
