I've been dealing with a part of my job I really dislike for much of the day, but I'm done with that now and IS IT BEER-THIRTY YET?!?!?!

#PhotoOfTheDay Maybe it's because I've been playing Fallout 4 every night lately, but this *really* reminded me of a typical thing you'd find along a street somewhere...

Congrats! I have the same one still, although I haven't used it in a long time... I used it for about a decade on the roof of our old house for my wideband scanner, which it worked great for. I used it for monitoring military and other air traffic in the days after 9/11 among other things.

If you're like me, connecting up those clusters was probably very satisfying! Congrats on the progress.
Are you going for any of the other many grid collection caches that are out there, like the De Lorme grids or even the California counties? It makes for some interesting logistical challenges to get around to all of those areas...

#PhotoOfTheDay is something different and NOT a photo that I have taken, as it pre-dates my existence by several decades! It shows my grandfather painting the ice-locked ship Quest in Greenland, in 1937. I still have a few paintings of his from this voyage.
Quest was the ship that Shackleton died on some years earlier. Its wreck was discovered fairly recently.

2025-07-28 02:16:27 UTC

Yes, that's it. I forgot that most people call it Rest Step. :) I was taught that it's like an exaggerated bride walk step, although admittedly I have emo personal experience with trying that myself. 😁 There seem to be different ways the details are taught too.
Briefly: Both feet flat on ground. Lift one leg, swing it & have it straight when it lands while the other leg is normal. You then pivot your body over the straight leg, using less energy. Do this with alternate legs. Slow & steady.

Much of the fun of geocaching is exploring and seeing interesting locations, to me anyway. My philosophy with places caches has always been that the location or the cache *has* to be interesting, or both.

Murtry - Someday I think you and I are going to end up bloody.
Amos - How about now? I'm free right now.

#PhotoOfTheDay is of two of the cool observatory buildings atop Mauna Kea in Hawaii.

#PhotoOfTheDay is of a USGS elevation benchmark disk on the summit of Mauna Kea, the tallest summit in Hawaii & the largest mountain on earth when measured from its base on the ocean bed.
Favorite fact:The elevation shown (13,796') is measured using traditional methods. That's from sea level. But GPS elevation is 100 or 200' higher (I forget which.) Why? Sea level here is higher as Mauna Kea is so massive it has its own gravity, which pulls the ocean up on its flanks! 😮

FWIW, re-watching didn't take away any of the magic for me, and I noticed a TON of things I missed the first time through because I didn't register them as important or notable. Especially after reading the books... Such a great show!

Perhaps you should add "Human Jack in the Box" to your name... Or perhaps "Human Claymore Mine." 😆

They're safe and in her car as of a few minutes ago. Hopefully they can get through the various gridlock I've heard about.

Yikes. My sister & her husband are evacuating there. Hopefully they can get out ok. At least they're currently ok.

IIRC Canada allows dual citizenship no problem, and I think the US does too these days? But I imagine that the hoops to jump through and the time required for citizenship would be much longer than permanent residency... But I really don't know. I probably should find out in case the US becomes Trumpistan.

You should, but only if you've officially changed your nationality... ;^) But wait, I think you already used the Metric system anyway so I can't think of anything less Un-American than that. 😂

Nice! That's a useful tool. I've never had a frequency counter larger than a small HT. My first was built into an old school pager body!

Because the word "November" is too long for the space they have allowed for the name of the month. April works because it's shorter, and frankly because it's a better month. ;^)

In Safari, when I right click on a tab in the tab bar (because the tabs fill the tab bar and there's no empty space as there is in MS Edge in Windows) I get the menu in the attached image.

The satellite option is supposed to come up if a text can't be sent via cell. I had it happen when I was at my FiL's house where there's no AT&T coverage. The text tried to send, and after a while offered to try to send it via satellite since cell wasn't working... And when Xfinity cable Internet goes down here, our cell internet is often pummeled and nearly unusable.
