You can enter any npub. But if the link is not signed then the npub entered will not display on the page and neither will the creator verification phrase.
Additionally the page will have warnings saying that the page is unsigned and the author cannot be verified.

Also if you want to get a feel for what the compression is doing you can tap/click on the url budget bar and it will open up a screen showing you how many characters each stage of the compression is saving. Interesting if you are winding about how it works.

It is also maximally optimised for English. The dictionary substitution swaps about the most common 10,000 English words for short character combinations. As well as a dictionary of phrases and urls that are compressed in the same way.
Any repeated words, phrases or entire blocks of text or data will then be compressed heavily by deflate.

I try to encourage users to stay below 2,000 characters as that is the safe limit for link detection across different messaging apps.
QR codes can fit a bit more than that.
I have been able to scan max size QR codes from an iPhone 12 and google pixel 6 camera.
As for how much data that translates to it varies a lot based on what the data, how repetitive it is and how well it compresses. For most of the sites you can make what feels like a full site page that does not leave you feeling too terribly restricted. You can fit about a full printed page of English text in a 2,000 character “message” url (uncompressed that would be maybe 5,500 characters).
I do not have any good sample sites with me on my phone but I have quickly made this near max size QR as a demo.
At the top I have text but then to pad out the characters with data that is hard to compress I added the digits of pi.

The use case is a simple way to create websites that fall into one of the defined site types.
Say you want to create an event page it is very simple to follow the builder and to create a link for an event that you can share. The link contains all the data for the event and your actual event data is never sent to a server. This makes creating the event private and also means the link can’t be removed.
There are 8 different site types that you can follow the online builder to make and try out. 5 of the sites are contained fully in the link and 3 use nostr for communication. The one that relies on nostr the most is the forum which lets you create a private forum that you can share with friends.

Males sense. Not sure what is optimal. The signed link giving a different forum is something I had not considered. I am not sure what the best behavior would be.
The forum identity is derived from the URL which is different if a signature is added to it.
With sites that are encrypted it is the decrypted fragment that decides the identity so adding encryption won't change that.
I could change this now but it would break signed forums as it would now show the posts of the unsigned forum.
I think the current way makes sense but it does mean you can't "upgrade" and unsigned to a signed and keep the history... Hmmm

I think things like this are a much better product market fit than the stores I have done.
There are so many limitations by making everything immutable and in the link. I think nostr based stores are a very powerful idea and in reality the censorship resistance of distributed relays are plenty and there is no need to go as far as I did and put it all in the link.
By the end I was contemplating just dropping the store from nowhere and instead making a more standard nostr store separately.

Yes the fundraiser is purely static. Loading it makes no network requests beyond just requesting the same scripts used to render any nowhere site.
As such there is no server to log any donation and no communication to communicate donations to page viewers.

It would be possible to use a link shortening service but then you are essentially trusting them to “host” the site. They are the ones that hold the data and your short link just requests it from them. And at that point if you are trusting a host you might as well use a traditional platform with more convenience.

Glad you are excited to try the store however for product such as this, the store has no way of automatically marking the item out of stock if someone does purchase. And given this is a unique one of a kind item you must be aware of this.
You have enabled inventory management which was the correct choice, however the inventory management event has not been published yet and you will need to do so at hostednowhere.com/manage/store.
Although I am happy to see people wanting to try this out, I would highly recommend sellers start with items of far lesser value to prove out the system first. The seller should only ever share the link once they have gone through the full checkout process themselves to test they are comfortable with the system.
Please also be aware that once a store is created and the link is shared it can never be removed. But if you enable inventory management as you have done then the store can be marked as closed to prevent any future orders once the painting has sold.

Everyone loves a good origin story so let me tell you about where the inspiration for nowhere came from.
I was working on Zap Alerts (a lightning enabled stream donation overlay) and building the donation page that streamers could share with their non Nostr viewers.
The way I built the donation page was to create it dynamically. The streamer would create a link that contained their stream details, lightning address, fiat currency of choice and suggested donation amounts and then share that with the viewers. When the viewers clicked the link it would pull all the right data from the url to build the donation page.
Once this was done I was looking at it and the realisation hit me. I had just built a storefront that was not hosted anywhere. Yes there was only one “item” in the store (a donation to the streamer) but the concept was there.

I agree the fully offline is powerful.
If you want an android privacy respecting browser that works for this I have tested with Vanadium.
I have not yet looked into creating a purely standalone app but I can see the benefits.

On iPhone loading the app from DuckDuckGo browser is buggy and does not work well.
If you are on iPhone you can just add the app via safari and then use it from the home screen. That is what I have been doing.
Unfortunately I do not think Firefox support progressive web apps.
You can still use nowhere and create sites without the app but you will just need an internet connection to do so.

It depends specifically which servers you mean.
The data of the actual content when you create a site and generate a link is not on any server except for whatever servers you choose to share the link through (ie sharing on social email or instant message).
The forum, store and petition use nostr relays to communicate (for forum posts, orders and petition signatures). These can be configured to relays of your choice.

For images you are able to load an svg file and encode its data in the link itself. They compress very well. The nowhere art page is dedicated to this but you can also use an svg on other site types as the primary image. For more complex images it is just a link to the image that will be encoded in the URl.

I have a soft cap where I warn users at 2,000 characters. This is because many social media apps stop doing link detection after this size. Every app is different but 2000 seems like a safe limit.
You can create up to something like 80,000 if you are willing to paste directly into chrome.

I made Nostr Gate for this (I know I know vibe coding apparently doesn’t help Nostr but I did it anyway!) you can use the website or if you want to put it on your own domain it’s a single html file that you can self host if you want to have your own gateway into the Nostr world. You can link to any note or profile and share that and it will give links to open in a variety of clients.
Inspired by njump except to host this you don’t need any server as it’s all just one static file that runs locally in the browser.

Rebuilt how zaps flow through the system. Everything's more stable and easier to build on. Lots of reliability improvements.
The big visible feature: Fiat mode (I know, I know). You can now display alerts in your local currency.

You might be able to do this nicely at the relay level.
“Top up” your relay account with sats. Each note uses some of your balance. If you only connect to these type of “pay to post” relays then every post will have been paid for. It also solves the question of why anyone would run relays for free Additionally any client that allows relays selection would work with this type of paid relay. No special client interaction needed for paying at the time of post.
And if users don’t want it they can stick with the “no fee to post” relays. Let’s see which provides better value.
