@nprofile…9j36 it would be great to generate more than one profile/lightning address for my account.
For example, one might be used with strangers where you don’t want to reveal real identity whereas another you might use with friends and family where it is super clear that it is you.

Most people have heard of the legendary Greek warrior Achilles, but few have heard of Bophades.
Like Achilles, as a baby he was dipped in the river Styx, but where Achilles was held by his heel, Bophades’ mother held him by the bawls - that’s right, she dangled him in the river Styx by his bawls.
But that only served to make him a more legendary warrior, everyone protects their bawls in battle, that’s a force of nature. But eventually in the heat of an epic battle he was fatally struck by an arrow right in the twig and berries, his only weak spot, and was killed instantly. A tragic Greek death: an arrow to the bawls.
Everybody knows about Achilles and his heel, but now you know the legend of Bophades Bawls.

The Eurodollar market is tens of trillions in USD right now and by its nature is largely outside the regulatory authority of the US Federal Reserve. That is a LOT of potential power the US Sovereign COULD have.
With USD stablecoins backed by USTs, a different arm of the US Sovereign (the Treasury) could effectively absorb and replace the Eurodollar market.
This allows the US Sovereign to exert more direct control beyond its own borders AND it allows the US Treasury to take significant power at the same time while diminishing the power of the US Central Bank.

Yeah that makes sense but tax free sheltering in Roth IRAs is no joke.

2025-08-12 01:20:41 UTC

Unless I misunderstand something, most of the bitcoin I own are in ETFs in my traditional brokerage accounts. I really like how I can add the exposure to Roth IRAs, solo 401(k), etc. Plus with all the estate planning work I’ve done including revocable trusts. It’s just so convenient and the cost of carry is like 15 bps. I can also do a pledged asset line on Schwab for a cost of 8% to 9% which is pretty damn competitive. Given all of that I find it hard to justify owning most of my bitcoin exposure natively in wallets.
Am I just too retarded to understand?

I’m clearly new at this, but I think I just figured out how to send my own bitcoin in a hot wallet on a exchange directly to my cold wallet. In a lot of ways, a deep understanding of traditional finance is helpful in analyzing this new technology, but it also sometimes makes it slower to understand the details.

Tier 1 assets represent the core capital of a bank and are the primary measure of its financial strength. These assets are intended to absorb losses without requiring a bank to cease its operations.
Common Equity is the highest quality of capital and is the most loss-absorbing.

2025-08-02 13:34:07 UTC

As someone who has been in finance/capital markets for over 20 years the following cannot be understated enough especially in the context of history:
On July 1st, 2025, Basel III banking regulations officially reclassified physical gold as a Tier 1 asset, specifically a high-quality liquid asset (HQLA). This means that U.S. banks can now count physical gold at 100% of its market value towards their core capital reserves. Previously, gold was considered a Tier 3 asset, requiring banks to discount its value.
Many times in markets the catalyst for great change is when the RULES change.

Great insight here:
“Money is not the point of civilization and it’s far from the most important feature,” Rickards argues. “Still, it’s part of the bedrock and performs crucial roles. Money is an advance on barter. Money is an alternative to violence. Money facilitates commerce and investment, and acts as a store of wealth. Money is among the institutions, along with law, religion, and the family, that enable civilizations to be civil and avoid a Hobbesian war of all against all.”

O yeah I have watched a lot of the youtube stuff and started using strike for personal usage. I just never tried incorporating #BTC into my business both as a portion of treasury and as a payments system for my people until now.
I have largely consolidated my personal #BTC buying with Strike at this point.

2025-08-02 12:54:46 UTC

I run my own business and our treasury consists of floating rate US Treasuries and #Gold Bullion. As I have gotten more experienced with #BTC I am thinking about including it too.
I am leaning toward using Strike but would be interested in folk's views on this.
I would want a solution that permits me to also pay my people in #BTC if they so chose as well.

Fun fact, "greenbacks" were issued by President Abraham Lincoln’s administration during the Civil War to fund military efforts when traditional borrowing in specie (gold) proved insufficient.
They were non-convertible paper currency, legally mandated as "legal tender" for all debts, though notably, import duties and interest on public debt still required payment in gold.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the current tariffs were declared to be payable in gold?

Great and relevant passage from the book:
"Inflated, Money, Debt, and the American Dream"
Even as the United States was beginning to mobilize for the conflict in 1940, Keynes published a pamphlet How to Pay for the War, which set forth the three ways a war can be financed: taxation, inflation, and forced savings. Keynes favored the last and believed that along with taxes and debt, savings by individuals should be the way government not only financed the war but also managed supply and demand.

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/07/14/nvidias-jensen-huang-downplays-us-china-concerns-ahead-of-trip.html
—————
*Opens History Books”
Between 1934 and 1938, American exports of motor fuel and lubricating oil to Germany nearly tripled. The United States was a significant supplier of raw materials to Germany during this period, providing between 31% and 55% of its imported phosphate of lime, 20% and 28% of its imported copper and copper alloys, and a substantial 67% to 73% of its imported uranium, vanadium, and molybdenum. Additionally, half of all German imports of iron and scrap metal came from the United States.
This economic engagement was part of a broader "economic appeasement" strategy, where American policy-makers, including President Roosevelt, sometimes pursued commercial self-interest despite the growing aggression from Axis powers. While U.S. Secretary of State Cordell Hull advocated for multilateral trade liberalization, this approach, alongside Britain's bilateral agreements, effectively continued to foster trade with Germany.
This influx of resources allowed Germany to press ahead with rapid rearmament, as Hitler's government prioritized military buildup and state control over the private sector to meet rearmament targets. Some American ambassadors, like Joseph Kennedy Sr. and Hugh Wilson, even "saw no objection to giving Hitler a free hand in Central and Eastern Europe".
This trade and investment, therefore, directly supported Germany's industrial and military expansion, enabling its war machine until "the fall of France effectively buried the policy of appeasement".
