Linux: It’s not just Microsoft Office you can forget about, but all of Microsoft’s offerings, including Microsoft Windows itself. You can probably get rid of Mac OS too. Why? Because Linux is free and open source software that is not just “libre” but also often costs you as little as nothing. The frightening thing about what Starmer's government is doing here in the UK is that its laws create a remarkable opening for Farage's fascist government in a few years, but Labour officials either don't realise that or don't care - their only way forward, the only way they know, is to pander to capitalist interests, therefore dooming them to further lose votes. But when fascism takes full effect, most of these politicos will, after all, be just fine.

One of the most unsavoury things in this discourse is when powerful people get away with blaming the proles for not choosing their harm merely in order to stop greater harm - rather than promising no harm at all and giving people reasons to actually vote *for* something. Voting *against* something is so negative and doomed, doing more harm in the long term. Biden got in on an anti-Trump vote, and this time rather than Trump winning, Harris lost. Ask why, rather than blaming your comrades and browbeating them into voting to demean and devalue themselves.

Firstly, congratulations on de-Googling! Secondly, as recent years passed I signed up for more and more Proton services, and paid for a lot as well. The blessing in disguise here is that it's freed me to shop around and take on services individually as opposed to as a package (which had been playing on my mind more too, from a security standpoint). So while I share some of your frustration, we can take lessons from the experience too (and/or I'm rather desperately trying to find the silver lining haha)

Capitalism sucks so much that it's tough to even find decent service providers online. I am sickened by people like Andy Yen of Proton (who have had a lot of my money over the years, but not for much longer) spouting "both sides" bullshit, evoking Swiss neutrality tropes with false equivalence between fascists and anarchists, Zionists and Palestinians, and @npub1p09…m5vl recently reminded me of how the Desmond Tutu quote applies here: "If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor." I'm sick and tired of techbro culture narratives deliberately disconnecting tech liberties from civil liberties and freedom.

It's very disconcerting indeed, and I agree that the Desmond Tutu quote applies! I'd love to know people's suggestions for alternatives to Proton's services/packages. For too long they've seized and essentially monopolised the anti-Google scene.
