Apple computers are pretty great for programming and especially web dev in my experience: you get a unix-like terminal environment, but you can also use all the corporate software you want. It's a bit heretical to say, but this ends up functionally being linux that will run adobe software natively, which is very useful to some people (AKA, me when I was doing front end web dev)

The gasworks itself is far and away the worst part of the park, don’t @ me
They removed all the cool historic stuff (like the elevated streetcar line) long before the gasworks even closed down. It is industrial trash that is in the way of the view. Its only possible saving grace would be as something to climb up to get a nice view, and the city won’t even retrofit it for that. Just lock it up & victim blame people.

I love Gasworks Park, but it would be even better with the dangerous ruined 19th century industrial relics gone. #Seattle doesn’t need a deadly architectural folly.
Either upgrade it so people can safely climb around on it (not gonna hold my breath on this one) or wreck it and give the park more actual functional parkspace.
The current Gasworks Park was all about saving money and sweeping the environmental/economic catastrophe under the rug. Don’t let them get away with it.

Almost no one I know has kids because childhood in the USA is so miserable (and dangerous) that it's hard to get excited about dooming someone else to it.

They weren't swept by police because people were much more understanding back then. They had actual wooden structures with chimneys and fireplaces. Heated in the winter. They even had mailboxes, addresses, and service by actual postal carriers.
NYC's main Hooverville was... in the middle of Central Park. Everyone was fine with it.
People were so much nicer to poor people back then.

Oh, I don't think I've ever posted about this on here before but I believe that self-deprecating humor is almost always a form of psychological self-harm and I would really rather not see or hear it ever. It's not funny or cute, it's just kinda depressing.
I used to make a lot of self-deprecatory jokes until someone pointed this out to me, and stopping doing it has honestly made a big, positive, lasting difference in my overall mood.

But crucially, I was hunting the obscure manuscript first, I wasn't even thinking about applying to grad school. We just got to talking about various shared research interests and realized we had a lot in common.
I think any professor would welcome an interaction like that. No one wants empty/self-serving CV/resume spam.
