Because for some magical reason gnome control center depends on systemd-hostnamed to show the hostname, and also because I was kindly asked by someone who's working on getting GNOME into guix, Gardenhouse gained a new component (that im not too proud of lol)!
Gardenhostd, it's a super minimal python implementation of the systemd-hostnamed, that currently only implements SetHostname, SetStaticHostname and SetPrettyHostname which just write to/read from /etc/hostname
But it's easily extensible so if any extra interfaces are required at some point it can be added trivially
This isn't gonna get the same love as any other Gardenhouse component, I'm not gonna bother with a news page or docs, because quite frankly I think hostnamed is an awful solution to a problem that doesn't exist and it's stupid that gnome control center would hard depend on it

I just released Seedfiles v1!
It's a portable drop-in reimplementation of systemd-tmpfiles, I already managed to replace systemd-tmpfiles on my Gentoo installation with seedfiles and it just works

Systemd added a birthDate field in userdb to "comply" with the new age verification laws[1]
Since GardenerDB is meant to work as well as possible as a drop-in to systemd-userdb, I am forced to also add this field, but I refuse to properly implement it
GardenerDB will hardcode the birth date to be 1998-07-06 for every user, any application that accesses that field for whatever reason will be happy to have that field, and the user will be happy that they don't have to reveal their actual age.

something funny about my setup is that for pretty much since I installed Gentoo it always had and automatically started xfce-notifyd
I have no idea how, or why it's there, I masked it, I unmerged it, I deleted the binary, it never goes away
so now I just have accepted that I will forever be using xfce-notifyd for notifications on every desktop/wm I use
