This book has some family tree diagrams in two different forms:
1. names and words written free-form on a page by typewriter, with some lines drawn in with pen.
2. some ancient MS-DOS family tree database program, printed out to fixed-width font 132 characters-per-line.
Anyone reading this have experience with reading and writing family tree diagram notation? Want to help me turns these pages into new clean diagrams using Mermaid or some task-specific software?

I've got a double memoir book from my father's mother and father, one story each, as one book. I'm converting it to modern formats and I'll probably release it as a new edition on archive.org for the family to read.
I've noticed a lot of "I think this is written by AI --- you can tell because it's full of em dashes" going around the Internet lately. That feels weird to me.

That sounds nice, and I''m not sure what APNative is. But something that Substack has is "free" audio/video hosting with machine-learning-powered auto-captions (for those publishers that won't provide the captions via some more expensive process).
Hard to argue with 'free'… until the service implodes because it wasn't cost-free.
If you want to publish text, you don't need substack; you can do it on a leftover computer at home.

I don't agree with her use of the term "self-censorship" to for when YouTube uses financial punishment to make video producers conform. I'm lukewarm about whether YouTube's censorship is bad or okay in this case, since they're a "private company" with advertisers. But it's censorship, not self-censorship.

do I remember correctly that you use FastMail?
Have a "random number" widget on your phone. Copy random number. Go to FastMail Settings → Aliases. Add new: "user-$n@$domain", with a private label naming the retail vendor.
Takes only a few seconds.
And have a filter that sorts "to:user-*@$domain" into "retail" folder.

and the "interpreter"/runtime or whatever it's called now hits a sweet spot between small size and fully featured with bells and whistles.
You can whip up a quick dirty desktop app (Tk or WebView), without having to muck around with smart pointers, malloc and free, or pointer borrowing. And then you can ship a standalone (bundled runtime) zero-dependencies "app" for most platforms that clocks in under 30MB!

Interesting data point: I work for a government contractor and we've had our share of the political nonsense spilling into communication and behavioral standards for the last 10 years, but one thing we haven't had, in my company, is a thing about the word "master" in the context of IT.
Inherit or create a new repo, for work, and the primary branch is called "main" or "master" or whatever -- no one cares, no one complains, no one asks anyone to change it. Just needs to be an obvious name.

btw I live in Jersey City across the Hudson River from New York City, and I don't think my whole city counts as "15 minutes" but my section of the city is definitely in the category. I can get almost anything I want except for decent furniture, by walking 15 minutes.
