Nerdy sort who loves messing with computers but is sometimes uncomfortable with the industry I find myself part of. Self hosting all the things is my coping strategy.

@npub1sv0…rq9x I don't suppose there's any chance your on the verge of announcing availability of your fine offerings through Netomnia is there?
Because there's a guy up a poll on my street wiring them up, and I would love to be a little more symmetrical!
(he asks, knowing there's no way you'd be able to confirm yet if this was the case)

Finally got around to setting up a self-hosted mail server. In the end I went with Stalwart for it's Rust-y all-in-oneness and relatively simple configuration (including NixOS module).
It spat out the required DNS entries for SPF, DKIM and DMARC, I added them to my test domain with @npub1wy5…64vc and carried out some tests with Fastmail, GMail and Outlook.
I checked the @npub1sv0…rq9x IPs I'd picked hadn't made it on to any block lists.
And it just works! No issues with delivery so far.

A bunch of instances will begin blocking the UK next month, understandably. Thanks #OnlineSafetyAct
I have a single user Masto instance, hosted at home. I'd like to stay federated with the folks I'm connected to now.
I think it's a reasonable to assume many instances will block federation as well as direct user interaction with their services, intentionally or not.
I'm planning to bring up a tiny VPS in the EU to proxy and/or NAT my home server.
What plans are other UK folks making, if any?

14 years after she came into our lives, today we said goodbye to Willow. Peacefully, at home, with a tummy full of cheese and sausages.
You were my first dog, and you were a good dog. I already miss you x

nice timing, just finished watching the film.
I’m left asking, why didn’t Nicole stay with the hot guy she ran away with, at least long enough for me to get a proper look at him?!
Yours sincerely

ooh, I’ve never seen Practical Magic. And from the cast and description I’m realising that makes me a bad gay.
