So what can we do once #chatcontrol passes?

2026-04-19 21:18:38 UTC

TIL that troll / trolling in the context of an internet troll / forum troll etc doesn't come from the mythological troll but comes from the fishing method. I can't believe that I missed this! Am I the last person to realize this? No, I'm not trolling you now 😁

2026-04-13 14:11:31 UTC

I'm a bit puzzled by the introduction of mathematical functions like csc which is the same as 1/sin. I haven't seen this mentioned during my education years, so I'm used to tan/cos/sin. Why complicate things further? I get the feeling this is more a cultural difference. #math

Iirc we had this conversation before? 😊 I recommended the webxdc calendar in #deltachat but I forgot about what you said about missing features?

2026-03-24 23:43:13 UTC

So I'm currently going through some material for multi variate calculus and now I'm at finding maxima and minima for functions of two variables.
There's a test you can make involving the second partial derivatives, where you compute the value D which is a discriminant. I'd like to know where this comes from.
Any pointers?

Sweet! Remind me, how much faster is an addition versus a multiplication again? I guess with these optimizations you want to convert multiplications into additions right?

I usually don't like to pack. But when it involves optimization and advanced 3d tetris skills it becomes a challenge and it's suddenly really fun!

Allt det här är jättebra, men hur löser vi problemet med att betala de som utvecklar mjukvaran? De som arbetar med att utveckla och underhålla mjukvaran kan inte bara göra det på sin fritid.

Current state of Chat Control is 5 opposing, 15 supporting and 7 undecided. It's looking a bit dark, but there's ONE outcome still that can block it and that's if Germany votes no.
If Germany says no, there'll be 6 countries opposing with more than 35% of the EU population and we'll achive a blocking minority.
So Germany, it's up to you now!

Skimmed it but it looks similar to my setup. It's also nice for having your own private network. E.g. working on something on my laptop, committing and pushing to another machine (NAS or similar at home). Doesn't matter where I am, wireguard takes care of it.

2025-06-16 20:13:38 UTC

Yeah sorry for the one word answer. Was boarding a plane and super tired. MC explained way much better 😁 So yes, one machine with a public static IP that runs e.g. nginx which in turn proxies requests to other machines on the local network. This network you can set up in many different ways. You could use reverse ssh tunnels for example but then I think wireguard makes more sense.

You might want to have a look at Metasploit and maybe also The PenTesters Framework https://github.com/trustedsec/ptf , maybe you can hack something together so you can run headless metasploit scripts? I'm brainstorming / killgissar a bit here.

In that same script you could also do a lookup on the service name and version on some cve site, e.g. https://www.cvedetails.com/version-list/20356/58193/1/Jc21-Nginx-Proxy-Manager.html for the nginx proxy manager

2024-12-14 19:38:12 UTC

- reply

Ah ok, then it makes sense in my head :)
Sure you can scan ports with nmap but I was more wondering how this would automatically report vulnerabilities since nmap would report open ports that should be open.
I guess you could write a script that calls out to nmap, checks the ports and services that nmap reports and compares that to a list of ports that you have defined should be open.
This you could put into a crontab and target e.g. the nginx proxy.

What type of scans are you referring to? And how do they detect vulnerabilities?
