I didn't expect my post about Swedish Television mistakenly labeling Vladimir Putin as "president USA" yesterday to blow up the way it did. What I *really* didn't expect was #Hachyderm's admins deleting my post just as it was approaching a thousand boosts. This because someone allegedly reported it as "misinformation", and that what I saw on TV "does not appear to have actually happened"... which ironically is about as Putinesque a statement can be.
So how would you fact check this? A few people commenting on the post had already done that, the way people normally do — by asking for the source. And they got it. I even boosted the link to SVT Play, where the broadcast can be streamed by anyone. It's still there https://www.svtplay.se/video/jAM5B9o/aktuellt/tor-13-mar-21-00?position=135
The Hachyderm "fact checking" process doesn't ask for a source though. In fact, they didn't ask me for anything. Since there were no news headlines mentioning this blunder, it must not have happened.
I appreciate the lecture for me to "fact check my posts before posting", but the assumption that I'd want to post anything on this instance again could certainly need some fact checking.

According to someone on LinkedIn, the EU is 20 years behind the US in tech. I would have answered that’s preposterous, but just as I was about to this brand new Windows 95 CD-ROM dropped in the mailbox, so I’ll most likely take that for a spin instead. Page me if you need me.

Why is it that all the success stories of AI increasing developer productivity to extreme degrees are always reported from a corporate context? Where are the open source projects that used to have 10 features commited per month, and now have 50? Or even just 20? These claims should be easy as hell to prove given how few industries do so much work in the open as we do, no?

@nprofile…4dwe the article paints a much more nuanced picture than your summary. Several institutions, including both the university and the anti-war group she was in, had reported suspicions. Not exactly the kind of institutions that normally does that unless something is really fucking wrong.

@nprofile…hujc yeah JSON or any dynamic data is a pain to deal with in Go. I’m happy I don’t often have to! Generic map/filter functions in Go I use all the time though. Or you mean that too in the context of JSON data? If so, I completely agree with you.

It's a good thing we use "txn" as a short name for a transaction in #OPA. Had we used "trans" instead, #GitHub #Copilot would have refused to work in any of those files. Jesus fucking Christ.

Big tech now arguing that the platforms they’ve built can’t be held accountable for e.g. racism, as racism has been around for all of human history. Well yes, you know what else has? Nipples. Interesting how easy those were to ban, but racism? “Content moderation is just *so* hard!”
