I think follower counts have their merits, but I see the problems with it. A good replacement for a general follower count could be "number of followers that I follow too." That is not as easy to game and is way more meaningful than just random people following someone.

Been away for a while, anything new on Nostr? 🤪
Don't really know why I completely went AWOL on here for over a year. Time moves so fast. I did have to cut down on my non essential computer time because of health issues, so I didn't do much social networking in general, but that's not really it 😄
I've seen there are some new Nostr clients (trying Primal right now) and Alby did some changes so I had to reconnect my wallet, hope it all still works.

Tastes really good and the process is quick and simple enough that I can do it half asleep in the morning. Stumbled upon it by accident on Amazon while searching for something to make cold brew, had never heard of it before. This seems to combine some of the characteristics of both cold (better taste) and hotly brewed coffee so it’s perfect for what I wanted since I prefer hot coffee.

To take control of nostr? I think they would just infiltrate the development teams of the biggest clients/relays instead of making their own. Just look at how many feds were working for Twitter, same thing would happen here.

Got a bit hooked on survival games lately and bought Volcanoids in a sale. You have a drill ship as your mobile base that you can build upgrades for to make it longer and outfit it with gun turrets and refineries and then when the volcano erupts (which it does every half hour or so) or when too many enemies approach, you tell it to bury down into the earth and then you can drive the ship underground. Really cool idea, the only game of its kind as far as I know.

Bought this nice Logitech K400 Plus keyboard for my Steam Deck a while ago (it’s a super old model but the only one with a touchpad next to the keyboard and I wanted that) and it suddenly stopped working, battery leaked out.
Asked ChatGPT how to fix it, told me to use some isopropyl alcohol on it, so I bought a bottle on Amazon. And it worked. I feel like some kind of DIY/maker/tech wizard now. I basically have the power to resurrect the dead.

I’ve been using the Arc browser for two months now and I’ve come to really like it. It was hard to move away from bookmarks at first but there are so many little nice things in Arc that make it really pleasant to use. I didn’t even plan to move away from Brave which I also really liked, but I have not gone back yet (only on mobile since there is only an iOS version right now, no Android). They have this feature where it asks you to make Arc your default browser for a week. Without that I would never have given it a chance for more than a few hours, really great idea.

Played Walking Dead Saints and Sinners on #PSVR2 today and it’s a lot different than I expected. I thought it’s a silly action/horror shooter but it’s actually a survival game where you do quests and collect resources. It’s really good so far. Couldn’t play long though, my shoulder still hurts from going a bit overboard with Pistol Whip.

Been using bone conduction headphones for half a year now because my ears really don’t like earplugs anymore. Only downside compared to earplugs is the titanium band at the back, makes lying or leaning back against a headrest a bit uncomfortable. Sound is good enough to me, but I’m not an audiophile and I mostly listen to podcasts with it. Can recommend for anyone who has issues with earplugs, the technology has come a long way.

The Warp terminal now also has AI built in, which is cool, but I’m starting to think it might be a better idea for GPT to offer a subscription that you can use in all apps instead of having one subscription per app. I’m already using 4 apps with (some free but soon to be) paid AI features available, it’s just going to get worse. Just like streaming services. You want to watch the newest movies and TV series? Well, just pay for a subscription to… Prime, Netflix, [insert ten other services here] for the small price of [all your money].

Finally got access to the Raycast AI beta. I’ve only used ChatGPT (free version) and the new Bing before which are both a bit slow to answer. Raycast is instant and is just a Command+Space away, feels so much nicer for quick questions!
And you can also create AI commands that you can use on selected text in any app, like shorten this text or improve the writing style.

Got my #PSVR2 today. It’s really good, can recommend. Best looking game so far I’ve tried is Kayak VR. Does make me sick instantly, I’m not good with boats, but man it looks great. Horizon does not look as good but there is a lot more going on so that’s to be expected and it is quite fun. Still trying to figure out how you’re supposed to aim with the bow, I’m sure there must be some trick I’m not getting. Right now I’m just hitting the targets by trial and error.

It will be really interesting to see what people come up with. Can’t wait to see someone try making a Nostr Wikipedia.
I was trying to think of an idea myself for something quick and easy to try out for Nostr that is a novel use of the protocol. Right now I’m playing around with an app to collaboratively write „Choose your own adventure“ games on Nostr.
Adds 3 new Kinds.
1) New story, with the ability to make it public for anyone to edit or with a list of people who are allowed to edit.
2) A new block (a block can have text, image, video and choices attached).
3) A new node (nodes are branches, where you end up after a choice)
Blocks are linked to nodes, nodes are linked to stories.
Not a crowd pleaser, interactive fiction is not that popular, but it is something different :)

Apparently, Dave Rubin was at Twitter HQ for the past two days getting shown around by Elon Musk. Interesting thread. Elon called Twitter „a flaming dumpster rolling down the street“. He says he might have to rewrite Twitter from scratch.
Hopefully that would also mean they make it decentralized from the start, make it compatible with Nostr and maybe even multiple protocols.

After a lot of refactoring and bug fixing the last few days I started implementing a profile view to do something a little more fun :D
Some of these animated avatars are really awesome. A bit distracting though, might have to (optionally) disable them in the post list and only animate on the profile view.
Still all super basic stuff, didn’t have much time cuz I’m ill and the pills I got make me too dizzy to concentrate too long, but progress is progress :)

One month left until PSVR2 releases. Haven’t tried VR before and pre-ordered PSVR2, so I’m pretty stoked! Just a bit worried that none of the release day games really piqued my interest, hopefully a few of the better PSVR1 games are ported soon. I’d really like to play Half-Life Alyx but I guess that’n not going to come to PlayStation :D

It’s a good thing when a social network is new, to find new people to follow and be followed. Quite a magical time in any social network’s life, when everyone is still nice to each other. It’s going to stop being useful fairly soon, but it’s still worth it right now. Thanks for planning to add it. By the way, gossip rocks! One of the most interesting Nostr clients right now IMHO.

It would work better with something more stable, so pure language use without frameworks or frameworks that are older and therefore don’t have many breaking changes in new versions. It can certainly be helpful though, it is super interesting technology. But in the end you still have to do the actual work yourself. Maybe Github’s Copilot works even better, haven’t tried that yet :)

Tried out ChatGPT for the first time, asked it some Flutter questions. I’m glad to see that developers are not going away soon, lots of the code it generated was wrong. Frameworks are changing too quickly for It to keep up, used a bunch of deprecated methods. The non-code answers were awesome though, quite fun.

As long as it is optional I like it for the people who can’t live without it, to each their own. Downvoting on Reddit and mass flagging campaigns on social networks have shown (imho) that flagging sadly does not work because what ends up getting flagged is different opinions first, actually bad content last.

Playing around with Flutter’s new AdaptiveScaffold to get a thread view going for my Nostr app. It’s supposed to make it easier to make an app that adapts to the device it’s on (phone, tablet, desktop) but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to change the button and text colors on the left in desktop mode (works in tablet and phone mode). Probably a Google bug 😔 Ah well, at least a little bit of progress today.
