I’m looking for suggestions on timers & moisture sensors for a drip system for my raised veggie beds. Manual sensors that I need to read are ok, but I have fantasies about a drip system that turns itself on (per bed) when the moisture level drops too low. Any recommendations?

Reading this reminded me of the time I went to pull disk packs out of the archive and discovered that someone had put a stack of 4 or 5 on the floor and used them as a step-stool. 😱 They did not survive the experience. (The disks not the culprit, who escaped undiscovered.)

Two years ago I missed a few bulbs of garlic when I harvested. I didn't think much about it. Last year life intervened, no annual veggies were planted, and I didn't give the garlic patch any thought.
Today I looked off the end of the deck to see an 8 foot row of garlic! 😅 It looks healthy albeit overcrowded. It was a nice surprise. I'll get out there and thin it soon.

If you want to build safety skills and confidence check with The Portland Wheelman or your local bike shop for beginner rides on the Westside.
It can be helpful to learn routes from other people in your area and fun to ride in a small non-competitive group.

There are a number of bicycle & pedestrian only trails in Washington County. Depending on exactly where you’re located some are simple enough to get to using neighborhood streets, others you might prefer to drive or take MAX to a trailhead. Early weekend mornings are generally quieter than weekdays. If you’re considering bicycle commuting try walking around in the area you’ll be biking in and check for bike parking at places you’ll visit.

When my nieces and nephews were young we used to record ourselves or their grandparents reading books aloud. We'd send them the book and the recording. They seemed to go over well at the time and now that they are parents we've passed along digital versions of the surviving recordings for their kids.
