Before the zoosadist thing blew up I was monitoring their whole scene, or at least parts of it. I'm badly burned out now but there's a lot I still remember. At least one of the zoophile groups to come after Enumclaw created contingency plans for if they ever got busted in the same way, and based them off of what those guys did.

Everything I have ever known about Howard Stern or his show has never been on purpose, but even in the 90s (when it was on real radio and allegedly "better") it was deeply unlistenable every time I tried to tune in. It was just catastrophically unfunny in a way that made me never give a shit.
What's actually interesting here is that the Sirius money-laundering deal he's had for the past 2+ decades was probably an early indicator of things to come. In 2004, when this $100million/year deal was reached, Stern was already a has-been. The peak of his popularity was a decade prior and it made no sense. Even at his peak the figures don't add up.
This is the kind of obvious graft we wouldn't see until a few years later. Remember Marvel's insane budgets for movie after movie that disappeared into PS2 cutscene-level CG? Or all those Adam Sandler "comedies" nobody ever saw? It's like that.
Satellite radio in general is funny because it was an attempt to cableize radio that peaked right when cable was starting to fall apart. Nobody under 40 wanted to pay for it so the only time I ever heard anything that was on it was whenever I got into a car that had been recently purchased new by a boomer. Or a rental. I know of nobody who paid to renew the subscription even when they got the radio and the first few months for free.
It's so funny that this guy was Sirius' big attraction, their big tent pole. Going all the way to Vegas to see Gallagher and/or Carrot Top would have been a more appetizing waste of money and time.

I'm a big, big proponent of the idea that porno can make you believe things, it can tell you how to think, and it's power to do that is up there with the most sophisticated written/filmed/performed/etc propaganda of the 20th century. That stuff got people to kill and die for various causes, and you could neither interact with nor beat off to any of it.
Just look at what tumblr(or of course bluesky) and 4chan are/were like, how their users became what they were, and what those free-for-all environments were like. The guy was extremely destructive to himself and everyone/everything around him. There were and are bigger, far more cautious & smarter fish to fry than Spink - Wolfstoy, Equinas, Elfasi & Rainstirs just to name a few. Those guys weren't going to self-destruct by any means, but Spink's theater kid antics spooked them out and made it harder to track them. They were known to activists but not the general public - until the zoosadist crisis blew the lid off of all of them. By that point I had to peace out, it was frying my brain too much to deal with.
Someone over on KF is still making progress on Rainstirs at least and I'm glad I'm not the one doing it.

One of those youtube guys decided to dig into one of the more distracting zoophile cases that spent 2008-2018 grabbing more of my attention than it should. I'm still kinda traumatized from those years; they feel like a waste. I watched because I was curious if they had gotten most of the details right. I was also curious as to what sources on the subject had survived into 2025.
They did get the core of it, an achievement because it was tedious to follow, especially when it was happening.
Doug spink was annoying to follow in real time because he was this complete upward-failing megalomaniac from start to finish. Just a constant stream of annoyance from his insane self-aggrandizing online and bewilderment at his constant managing to wrangle things out of people around him. Imagine if the Pusher character from the X-Files fucked horses and you have Fausty, a Vince Gilligan character that could never leave the writing room.
The youtube video doesn't get into the wider implications of spink as a lumpenbourgeois freakshow and that's forgiveable as that would just send their engagement even further into the weeds than it already was.
Today Spink strikes me as a kind of failed attempt at an epstein type. This is due to his rich boy background & recruitment into high-end drug trafficking. He was a useful busted freak for TPTB who turned out to be worthless for the job. But since he didn't last long enough to be worth terminating, they just cut him loose. Did they want to see what would happen if he managed to go on a decade-long bender afterward, as he did? Who knows.
