I've kicked off the wind-down work on @npub1xrr…k5qy and have sent out emails to most (all?) project leads and people involved.
In case there is a Jazzband project you care about, please check out the dedicated project board and engage: https://github.com/orgs/jazzband/projects/16/views/7

Thanks for your article, it's very interesting and quite timely. I’d posit PyPI is built for _all_ Python community members, whether employed at corporations or not, in the spirit of furthering PSF's mission https://www.python.org/psf/mission/.
We just published the Strategic Plan 2026, in case you're curious to find out more what the board intends to focus on: https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2026/09/announcing-psf-strategic-plan-2026.html

🎉📦 The Packaging Summit at PyCon US 2026 is now live.
If you work on Python packaging, maintain packages, support downstream distribution, or have topics that would benefit from focused in-person discussion, please take a look:

After more than 10 years, @npub1xrr…k5qy is sunsetting.
I started it in 2015 because maintaining Open Source alone was exhausting. The idea was simple: shared access, shared responsibility. It's been an honor to watch it grow: 3,135 members, 84 projects, and a lot of code shipped together.

Lazy web, I'm looking for a toggle to disable Copilot Reviews in GitHub repos.
When a PR contributor has Copilot enabled, they can essentially override the maintainers' wish not to enable Copilot reviews. Unless the repo is in an Enterprise organization, where it can be blocked at the org level.
https://github.blog/open-source/maintainers/welcome-to-the-eternal-september-of-open-source-heres-what-we-plan-to-do-for-maintainers/ ignored this and even claimed an "Eternal September" (sloppy nostalgia), while the most obvious thing wasn't mentioned.

Hey all, this @npub1vv8…6fhk blog post is special, it connects the dots, on where the PSF is financially, and how we’ll sustain it to serve its mission in the future. This transparency is key and an invitation to build together.
You all know that Python became the connective tissue of modern computing because of everyone (maintainers, educators, library/tools authors, companies, user groups and conferences, you!) invested time into the Python community.

Today the vice-president of the United States stated publicly that Germany's government should work more closely with a proven right-wing extremist party, one week ahead of a federal election, for risk of ignoring the people's will. What a historic disappointment, seeing this tone-deafness.

Dunno, “killer app” isn’t what is needed for matrix, implies something novel. A compelling, native, workhorse client? Sign me up!

I’ve gotten a few Django apps into and out of core, but it took a lot of effort and probably more privilege than reasonable. Maybe with more people working on Django as their day job, without strings attached, maybe we’d have more time to work on stewarding a framework like Django? I’m worried we’ll always err on the side of caution and scarcity otherwise, given the scale of use. (2/3)

I don’t believe that “stdlib is where packages go to die” is the right metaphor BTW, it’s a pretty bleak worldview IMO. Working on built-in features just necessarily has a higher bar for stability and restraint (!=features) than 3rd party packages that can be easily installed with our favorite package managers, whenever needed. Oh this is a difficult report to read for me, since the topic existed 15 years ago and it’s sad for me that we haven’t figured it out yet. (1/3)

That bitter undertone about what Jazzband didn’t deliver is hurtful (also elsewhere), just want to add this to this thread, and it makes me less excited about django-commons. I guess I didn’t try hard enough? Ok.
