Though I do wonder how much Bitcoin investment is happening out there in the productive economy of things / farms / factories (not just in financial or Bitcoin-related services)? Seems the best case is to hodl in those situations which disincentivises capital allocation.

From a Bitcoin perspective the words that kept coming up when I mentioned it were: "Cody, it's just too volatile!"
Of course purchasing power stability is a key part of a currency, whatever school of economics you hail from. You need a stable currency to be able to price contracts and build out supply chains. However we must also recognise that all fiat currencies are engineered to lose value over the long term (and often suddenly in the short term, too).
Bitcoiners would say that "volatility is price discovery" and point to the way the number has gone up over the last 16 years to give a hint of what hard money smells like.
But what if the truth is somewhere in the middle? The institution of Central Banking has changed in form over the decades, indicating that it is not a static and forever concept. What if a reform takes places where the ability to pull those monetary levers is more and more constrained by a hard money base, such as Bitcoin?
What if Bitcoin acts as a forcing function on sovereign currencies? E.g. A great big sword hanging over policy missteps ready to drop?
OR does Bitcoin do nothing of the kind? Or does it destroy that system completely? ... I don't know know.
Clearly Bitcoin is a better store of value and is the hardest money we know. But what needs to happen for a new economic order to emerge?
Is it a case that those innovations of credit lines, financial institutions, and the "suits" are the next logical step? How can the decentralised and self-sovereign properties of Bitcoin be lifted up at the same time as its economic value appreciates?

I took the train to Fujisawa while reading The Man Without Qualities and day dreaming. Had lunch at D’s then wandered around the second hand store looking at the junk bins but just couldn't get into the mind of what it all means to have a fetish for objects like this.

Can I just say, I find it incredible how climate change has been smoothly swapped out for AI as an existential financial risk for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand. I was having a long talk with a friend yesterday about this. Both climate change and AI have elements of truth to them, but in the popular mind they have actually been taken further to fill the human need for apocalyptic myth-making and redemption which is as old as time.

🌊⛏️ I had the awesome chance to visit a 50KW Bitcoin mining site in Gunma, Japan, operated by Agile Energy X, a subsidiary of TEPCO Power Grid. Big thanks to the team at @npub1qtv…7dze who I tagged along with!
The site is operated by TEPCO Renewable & Power utilising 50KW of solar that would otherwise be wasted as the site is currently awaiting grid upgrade and connection.
I think this is a big step forward for broader engagement with power generators about how Bitcoin can help the grid and for understanding the opportunity to participate in this new monetary network.
There is a lot that we can learn from the power of Bitcoin mining to act as both a load balancing and grid stabilisation tool, as well as helping with the ROI and financial planning of new generation assets.

I am reading The Sovereign Individual again. Has anyone else been reading it? Some truth bombs that stand out:
1. Is anarchy the world order already? There is no global power, only competing states and interests and the logic of violence.
2. Politics is downstream of technology, mass democracy is a product of mass production, along with mass media
3. Voting is a proxy for military violence
4. What is it that makes people believe in the legitimacy of democratic institutions? No other organisation or business is run this way, when you understand the logic of violence in the industrial age it becomes clear.
