Much needed! Gimp is too complicated for that. For the moment I've been using Canva (web version) but I wish I could do that locally!

Here in France, I’ve been reading in the media for over a year that Europe will be the region hardest hit by climate change – you can find some articles online (a few below). However, many years ago, I remember hearing that it would be the countries in the Global South that would be most affected, with Europe having to deal with millions of climate refugees from the "south" - their deepest fear.
The French corporate media has been attributing the wildfires to human actions, which are exacerbated by heatwaves and drought-like conditions that increase the likelihood of fires. The fires are started by humans, either intentionally or accidentally, and spread due to poor climate conditions and dry vegetation. I don't know how media from other European countries are dealing with this subject.

Outro ponto positivo: o Yunohost automatiza as atualizações.

[abstract=apub]re: Decentralization/Bluesky/Fedi Rambling[/abstract]
@Rusty Skunk
I agree with you on all these points. My point is not that everything should be encrypted all the time, but that marketing the Fediverse as a pro-privacy social network could lead people to believe that it is more private than it actually is. It's not a place for secrets, sharing sensitive content or organising revolutions.
Privacy and security have many levels, and if people are not educated about this, they will believe it's a zero-sum game, as you said. Thinking it's more private than other tools, as I used to, can put people in danger, such as activists and journalists.
I was very disappointed to realise that the tools I was using were not actually protecting my data or giving me the freedom to move whenever I wanted. Many software programs don't even do the basics properly, such as deletion and data export.
When I encountered deletion issues, tit depended on the software. In Friendica, I have seen posts that were deleted on Mastodon. The same applies to Pixelfed and Mastodon. I've heard that Diaspora is even worse. Not only posts, but even deleted profiles are not always deleted from remote servers. This is a serious issue because, for example, if you're an activist and you suddenly need to disappear, you delete your profile and have no way of knowing whether all the servers have received and processed the data deletion request.
In my view, that is dangerous. I definitely can't say that the Fediverse protects your privacy when bugs like that exist. I can't explain in which cases it happens. I've tested it many times and it looks 'random', sometimes it deletes, sometimes no, but either way, something is not working and people believe that they are in control of their data.
Another thing is that one can only speak about the software they use. It's very hard to use the word 'Fediverse' in this context because Mastodon's controls are different to those of Diaspora or Hubzilla. Even if we say that the protocol gives us lots of control, we don't know how different software implements the protocol. If we say that ActivityPub is safe, people will assume that any software using it is also safe.
For me, the problem is people's unrealistic privacy expectations when they don't understand the technology - I was one of them.
There are lots of people in the Fediverse who still claim that there is no AI in the Fediverse, so your data is protected and not used to train LLMs. But most user profiles are public and can be scraped, and admins could also do so if they had the ambition and skills. This is not the business model like in Meta platforms, but it is a real possibility.
If data protection authorities (DPA) were to pay attention to the Fediverse one day, it could easily be demonised, which would scare people away. I hope that, by the time it starts receiving attention from DPAs and Big Tech, the necessary privacy controls will already have been implemented.

Thanks for writing. I agree with most things, except perhaps the privacy controls. Big Tech has set the bar so low that anything else seems pro-privacy. But privacy controls will depend on the software being used. Privacy controls in Pixelfed are basic, Mastodon is basic too. In Friendica, they're more advanced, and it seems that they're great in Hubzilla (but nobody understands Hubzilla).
Admins can sell your data, read your direct messages and, in some software, read your notes to yourself. They can also host the instance with bad, cheap hosting companies that can read or collect your data since it's not encrypted. You are really at the mercy of your admin's ethics, and most of the time, people know nothing about the person who manages an instance. For example, it could be a Meta employee or a fascist state actor who has set up an instance to observe and collect people's data.
So, I'm not enthusiastic about marketing the Fediverse as a whole as a place that protects your privacy because there are inherent risks that people don't always know about or understand, as well as holes and bugs (e.g. posts that aren't deleted across different software, or boosts and likes that can't be undone in some software - which is equivalent to not being able to delete something, a basic GDPR right).
Sure it's better than mainstream social networks in many ways, but privacy controls are still lacking. At least, though, attacks on privacy are not the business model or the default behaviour of those who manage and moderate instances. That is a great thing. There's a lot of space for improvement, and I'm sure the people involved in different projects would love to have the conditions (time, money, skills) to make the platforms more robust in terms of security and privacy.
Needless to say, all mainstream options are really bad for privacy. At least Fediverse platforms offer less risky alternatives for people who worry about privacy, and everyone can improve current code and add pro-privacy features, or fork and build a better option.
