I signed up to mastodon.social to see how their onboarding flow looks like and it's quite reasonable/slick

Every time I go to quote a post and I find the button missing, I am reminded that the whole discussion about [[quote toot]]/quote post in the Mastodon project has been going on *for many years* with no resolution, even with active participation of many community and project members.

the quote post feature has been proposed, as in https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/12753, and IIRC has had at least one PR implementing it in some way, but it's been shot down every time. Last I heard it wasn't in the roadmap, unless I missed it.
