This quote comes from a letter she wrote in 1523, that is considered the start of her career as a #laytheologian writing in Bavaria during the #Reformation
Honestly, she gives me hope for #ChristianFeminism and #women theologians who are not ordained and don’t have academic credentials. I think I’m going to enjoy learning more about her!

@nprofile…8t0c was thinking about you/this overnight & it got all tangled up with memories of being taught to crochet by my grandmothers (the skill skipped a generation, my mom & aunts don’t do yarn) which was probably a metaphor for having to unknit the last row of my WIP & stash tendencies. Anyway, now I’m wondering about how to start summer knit-ins at local care facilities….maybe if I picked a specific type of project or charity to start with it would attract some folks? 🤔

@nprofile…8t0c I understand the appeal of those words, too! For me, part of the purpose of modifying the Lord’s Prayer is that it makes me pay attention to what I’m praying because I can’t just rely on “muscle memory” (I also sometimes say it in a language other than English although that seems to be more disruptive in the context of a worship service than tweaking a couple of lines).
I like the word “sin” & the phrase “save us from the time of trial” because they are harsh. They remind me that not all mistakes are easily forgiven & that there is always a possibility of being asked to make hard choices in life. They don’t sugar-coat things or minimize wrongdoing or wrong-thinking. I define sin as that which separates me from God rather than a sort of spiritual rule-breaking, so it’s not to be taken lightly. Using “sin” reminds me of that & requires me to take a hard look at what I have done or not done while “save” reminds me where my redemption comes from.

I wouldn’t call most of the knitting modifications I’ve made significant. They tend to be changes in colors or needle-size more than anything. Recently, I’ve attempted creating some of my own designs, which is mildly entertaining but hasn’t resulted in anything I want to make again, let alone try to sell (although my current #YarnBomb experiment might be the first)
My spiritual life has gone through many iterations, as most people’s do. Today, I’d say the most significant modifications would be cultivating a discipline of using female pronouns to refer to the Holy Spirit & swapping out 3 traditional lines in the Lord’s Prayer (“forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us & lead us not into temptation”) for more contemporary language (“forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial”)

@nprofile…60lz I’m curious what your source is for the anti-cash statements (I’d also like to know if the trends apply to the U.S. as well)? In my experience, it’s not the banks pushing less use of cash as much as it is consumers. I’ve had multiple conversations with young people around why cash is more convenient and “better” than cards/digital payments. It’s like no one ever explained it to them 🤷🏻

#ContemplativeKnitting #Introduction During the Easter season, I’m using the book Contemplative #Knitting by Julie Cicora https://bookshop.org/a/13969/9781640652620 for my daily devotional & tooting my #SpiritualReflections here. Each chapter will have its own thread & I’ll hashtag the book & the chapter. It’s possible there will be multiple reflections per chapter & each will be tooted as a reply to the first toot of the chapter. The Introduction asks how important doing things the “right” way is. I’d like to say it isn’t, but the truth is I was brought up preoccupied with doing things “right” & understanding that until I understand how the rules work, I can’t break them. As a result, I’m a bit of a perfectionist who often abandons things when I can’t do them “right” or get bored trying. That’s why I’m purposely keeping this practice vague & taught myself to #knit around age 12 or 13. I’m not the rebel I’d like to be 1/?

@nprofile…dafa FWIW I do think it’s important NOT to do business with entities that are not doing “good” (ie fast fashion houses or those known unapologetically for racist/genderist/ableist/ageist & anti-lgbtqia+ policies & practices.
I also recognize that my values are not everyone’s values & that few, if any, organizations or individuals are likely to align with me totally (which isn’t the point, anyway). At the very least I’m hoping to limit the negative impacts of my own business (think: do no harm/harming no one, which is totally idealistic & possibly unrealistic, but I’m going to give it a try anyway)
At the same time, I feel as though we often focus more on punishing what we don’t like than we spend supporting what we do. Be focusing on doing business with those who share my values, I’m seeking to change that paradigm, if only for myself.

On #MaundyThursday #TheDisciplesWay is reflecting on #TheLordsSupper (Matthew 26:26-29) Rev. Troy Menendez shares a few of the wonder-full #HolyCommunion experiences he has had & I admit, I envy him these experiences. My own have been far more pedestrian & quiet, quite probably because they have all been part of regular #Episcopal worship services.
Both share characteristics with the #LastSupper Matthew describes, particularly in that they occur in community of shared faith. The disciples must have felt something significant was afoot, as Rev. Menendez’ community seems to. At the same time, with the exception of Jesus’ words, it was just another meal like those celebrated weekly in my churches. This week, especially, we know what momentous changes are coming for the disciples. That is not usually the case when someone dies. Those gathered with Jesus could not have known what lay ahead for them anymore than we do today. We just trust in God that we will be together again.

This has been a rough year for me. I’ve managed to keep putting one foot in front of the other through it primarily because I was afraid that if I didn’t, I’d just disappear as though I never existed. Today’s verse (Psalm 43:3-5) in #TheDisciplesWay reminds me that simply enduring is not what God wants for me or for anyone. For months, I’ve sought solace (& honestly, just to stay busy) at church. This psalm calls me to seek joy. I’m not sure how, particularly when we’re heading into Holy Week, which is probably the most stressful time of the year for parish administrators who dabble with A/V. I’m also afraid to even look for joy because it doesn’t seem to last for me. And losing it hurts. And yet…the call persists. To find & experience joy in worship when I am working the service not just attending it. How? I know I’ve carried a lot of luggage into this season. I know I need to put it down. It doesn’t seem not define me. I no longer need it. #Joy calls. I’ve forgotten how to answer.
