I have a degree in graphic design. That I haven't really used it for many many years now kinda doesn't matter.
-Infographics (I'd refamiliarize myself with Edward Tufte)
-Pieces of stuff that could be combined with other stuff to make posters
-Maybe some of the kinda stuff that shows up or used to show up in AdBusters.
-Short bits of writing on color theory, layout and grid theory. Proportions and relationships, a lot of which come from sculpture and architecture. Typography. How to write a decent fucking sentence that sounds good when people hear the words in their head. How to think about art direction over multiple pieces, like an ad campaign.
-etc.

Cool. Good. I hope y'all get going on that right away. MAPWorld needs internet tech that will prevent our stuff from getting deleted from servers, being made unfindable or unreachable via typing stuff into a browser field, or having our ability to take in money cut off. Ideally, it would be really great if you all could figure out a way to make our stuff resistant to denial of service attacks or their equivalent but I'd bet that'll wind up being impossible.

We'll have to see how it plays out, I guess. UDP overlays sound cool. MAPs that are devs should not be intimidated by problems that look insurmountable, rather, they should be creative, patient, and doggedly determined. :)

Tacoma is relatively close to me in the bigger picture. I don't know anybody there but now, reading this, I wish I did.
I'd like everybody in the entire pediverse, (whatever instance you're on; it doesn't matter) to understand that *IF* you actually want society to treat you with dignity and as if you have value as citizens; if you want to be treated like "everyone else in the world" and not like you're creepy disgusting people, etc. etc. you will not achieve that by hanging around online spaces by themselves.
Online spaces are fun.
Online spaces provide comfort and some small relief for loneliness and alienation.
Online spaces provide an arena for limited status gaming where people can gain followers and feel like they matter and are valuable citizens of a community and watch as comments of theirs get boosted a lot or liked a lot, etc. etc.
Online spaces should absolutely be PART of the larger status game that we need to play against normie society in general in pursuit of respect, equality, and freedom.....
....they should be part of that. But they will never be the whole of it. They are a dead end by themselves.
We have to get offline. We have to or we're fucked for the long term, period. Are you lonely? Are you frustrated? Are you angry about your place in the world and sad that things aren't changing in your favor? I know I am. But if you keep doing what you're doing now and only what you're doing now, you're going to grow old and die this way.

It's okay to be afraid. It's not shameful to be afraid. But it IS a tragedy that people want to let their fear keep them from all the things they dream of. You wanna live in fear, you're going to die in fear and that will just be that. The end. You will die in fear, and your fear will have kept you from helping your community advance their cause. None of us can do this alone. We need to help each other and stand together. If we're too afraid to take any risks, then nothing happens and, like I said, we're fucked.
Look y'all, it's like this. I don't know how these Tacoma people are, but I know some people in Seattle that probably either did or we're going to doxx themselves if things had worked out differently than they did. Know why? It wasn't because they are stupid or needlessly reckless, it was because it was their plan to try to get the feds to grant their org tax-free 501c3 non-profit status. No taxes. That's a big deal. What I personally wanted them to do was build their whole org on privacy crypto rails but that's because I'm crypto wanker and against the current US State which is a tool of the normies who hate us all. In any case, they didn't want to go the crypto route so they didn't. No biggie. Whatever. I still wanted them to succeed.
As a community, as a PEOPLE, we're going to have to take risks; there's no way around it. So, as I wind this down, I want this message to go to the pedi citizens are starting to understand this and accept it as necessary.
I spent many years of my adult life moving around the BDSM community, and, in those years when I was a much younger guy, the social intersection where the BDSM people, SCA people, and sci-fi/fantasy/horror fan/convention people all came together. There were lots of people I knew for years and years and I never knew their real names.
You don't want to use your real name? Unless you're staffing an org that has legal obligations to the State for real names, then being pseudonymous is not a problem. Don't use your real name. You'll be fine. Don't do illegal shit. Don't help other people do illegal shit. Don't go to venues/spaces to meet people you haven't gotten to know well online over a period of weeks or months or whatever you think of as a reasonable amount of time is for security. You'll be fine. Really, you will be.
For those of you reading this who are too afraid to do anything offline, that's okay. It is what it is. But the community needs something from you anyway. What the rest of us need is for you to be calm and to not freak out when other more socially bold/aggressive people do what you don't want to do. If those people wind up meeting other people and maybe, over time, dating those people, or getting jobs at the same places as those people, maybe living with those people and building stuff, then the community needs you to continue to be calm and to celebrate those small victories because THAT, my peeps, is progress. THAT is the community beginning to build real strength. In time, the work of those bold vanguard-ish types will make everything safer so that YOU TOO can start doing stuff. When that happens, that's the beginning of the avalanche. That's when the fucking freight train really starts to roll.
If anybody knows who the Tacoma people are, please send them my way. I'll cheer them on for their commitment to progress and for being brave and, if I feel like they've made mistakes, I might or might not say something about that but if I do, I'll be gentle and kind about it. I won't shame these Tacoma people because I'm very convinced that, even if they fucked things up when they tried to build something, directionally, they were right.
