Depending on how much legacy social viral load one has - the purple pill takes anywhere between six months to an year - to full cure . The only measure of success for "open source software" is how many times your repo got forked - or how many others bundled your software ! Or subscribed to solution philosophy ( mostly protocol)
Reason is simple - people who bundle your software are your real customers - they would respect and pay for your time .
Case(s) in point :
- Linux is successful open source project because kernel is basis for thousands of distros ..most donations to the foundation come from distros (or corporate clients of distros ) ..
- #bitcoin is successful because thousands of shitcoins copied its solution - that is the reason #satoshi has 50 billion in his wallet - she may never use it but she is super rich and super successful.

I think #Amethyst has reached a level of sophistication where it can start asking for a fees - to support the devs ..
A simple model that I will pay for
- Drafts - free
- Note - 50 sats
- comment - 10 sats
Or
a pro model where I pay say 1000 sats per month for unlimited notes and comments .
It is important :
- It helps dev ecosystem. New clients' devs see a path to monetization. In a way , users are incentivised to try out new clients ..
- If you ( as a user ) are willing to spend time on new clients - you invest your time to help testing / ideation . You get free #nostr but you know free is NOT an ultimate solution. Paying for software is a habit - a good one !
- If software is free , perverted means to support dev are bound to percolate - pesky ads :-) are probably the least of your concerns ..
As for #apple nostr developers (read #Damus) .. if you are NOT charging for your software ( open source or not ) , you are probably culturally misaligned :-) .. you should move to Android / windows .. pun intended :-)
PS - I don't use apple software - hardware is a different thing - love it !

Psudonymous systems were when we started creating an ID on the server side .. that was an improvement because original anonymous internet was incapable of keeping a history ..
The key pair systems particularly that are implemented on client side .. and thus KYC free ..are the best (physically possible) implementation of anonymity... So I call them "near anonymous" systems
The problem is NOT the system .. the problem is people attach their real IDs to #nostr IDs because they want to leverage their pre-existing networks ..
If you want to popular .. you can't have privacy ..people will find out everything about you no matter what you do ..

A suggestion - the default for notifications should be Global .. because for new users ( with not many followers ) , it is good to have sight on all notifications..

I had it set on "All follows " .. and I was comparing it to Primal where there is no such top level filter .. of course you can fine-tune notifications through more settings in Primal ..

I typically use a desktop browser to venture into #nostr .. Zaps work great thanks to #Alby extension
On Android , it still remained a problem - so I added #Primal wallet as soon as it was made available - works great in Primal
But when I try to #zap on #Amethyst - it takes me to #cashApp .. through native Android integration (I guess)
Is there something that works well in all browser , desktop and mobile apps ? Or do I need some tweaks in Android settings ?

That is true but the vaccines against "wok virus" are pretty effective :-) .. when people go to ballot they leave the noise behind ...
The reason for the noise is a vertical split - on multiple dimensions ..for example
- base is sick of wars - leadership is for
- base is against Israel - leadership is for
- base is tired of inflation - leadership is focused on stock market
- base is worried of influx - leadership wants to open the flood gates
- base is done with ID politics - leadership is still pushing the same chords
I am not judging "right or wrong" on any of the issues I mentioned - all I am saying the party is in total chaos .. the same thing reflects at the top of the tickets - no credible name wanted to throw in their hat against Trump2024 ... so you have what you have ! I wouldn't be surprised if RFK pulled more popular votes out of dem base than the coronation :-)
On the other side - you have a party united under one banner. The message is clear and everyone is aligned - again no judgement on wrong or right - because no one knows the future ..but the game is not about being right or wrong - it is about the organization .. better organized wins and is likely to take correct decisions as and when needed ..

Yup ... my point was when absolutely useless things (netflix) waste so much data .. and people are willing to pay for them .. why worry for nostr ... not even .00000001 % of global data use .. will cross the bridge when nostr competes with at least tiktok ..
That said - multiplicity of relays is a feature .. in fact the idea is everyone should have their own relay ... more of them means better censor resistance and fault tolerance for the network ..
Not to say - more data consumption ain't painful .. it is ..particularly if you are traveling with a costly data plan ... the problem is nostr clients dont even support the "data saver" mode ... but overall , it is still not a problem that someone should really prioritize for ... my 2 !

Thanks .. and the reason I ask this .. in an enterprise set up .. many conversations are driven on hashtags .. communities or rooms are just too cumbersome and formal ..
Being able to follow a hashtag allows me to follow a cross conversation .. for example if I am in customer service .. people can respond to customer with #service .. then any agent can pick up the message and run with it ..
as for spam .. that is a problem #nostr should anyway handle .. it should not limit/restrict the good usage ..

Absolutely.. if and when I want my notes stored in perpetuity , I will be careful enough to install my own relay ..
If not , there is no point collecting the garbage .. in fact , everyone must be mandated to remove garbage ..
A free public relay should store data for say 30 days .. a paid relay for 90 days .. and a personal relay for as long as you want ..
The 90 days limit even on paid ones ensures that the storage price is lowest possible .. so that people really don't mind shelling out say ten sats per message to keep it around for 90 days ..
It will clean the system up .. makes the the micro- commerce a habit and incentivize people to offer more small paid relays .. and also to self host ..
