The thing about C having its stable ABI, is that C code can easily be re-used from pretty much any language under the sun.
Most new languages are failing in this aspect. They don't just require bindings: they require bindings that perform translations... into a C-compatible API..
My Rust library for CalDAV is barely usable outside Rust. Exposing its functionality via a C API requires reshaping a lot of it.

Nice. Did you have to do anything special to share /dev/dri/renderD128 with the guest? Did you just mount the regular pulseaudio/pipewire and Xorg/Wayland sockets into the container?

Not entirely sure where to report this: when using fcitx as an input method, it only works on Firefox or other non-COSMIC apps, but the input method does not work on any COSMIC app.
Is this a known issue? If not, what's the best place to report this?

From a practical point of view, Steam’s investment in Linux is improving the entire ecosystem. A non-steam Linux host runs games better because of it. Linux phones can run x86 software because of their investment. DarwinOS is just a “technically open source” core which has little practical impact.
Is it all part of a strategy? Sure it is. But it’s still having a net positive impact. Their strategy aligns with the interests our interests.

The comparison is pretty ugly. Apple focused on closed ecosystems and pushing against digital rights. It was and is part of their core DNS. Valve hardware is actually pretty open, and it’s one of its big selling points. Steam itself is proprietary and closed, but everything around it isn’t. Apple caused strong rejection in the same crowd that actually kinda likes Valve hardware.

I understand that these kind of issues are not ideal, but many of us aren't worried about attackers that re-flash our devices with custom firmware or similar highly specialised attacks.
Most people just want to avoid the generalised spyware and exploits that are thrown out as non-targeted attacks.
Sure, the device would be _slightly_ less secure, but that's acceptable for some people's security model.

Most humans don't need "the most secure device in the world", and the hardware capabilities of many other devices suffice. They just need a moderately secure and privacy-centric OS.

AOSP in general is no longer developed in the open, they'll just throw some sources over the wall some time after releases happen (i.e.: in the style of macOS/Darwin).

Google seems to have removed the bits necessary for AOSP to be actually usable on Google devices. I hate to have been right, but relying on the good will of Google to build a privacy-centric user-first OS was doomed to reach this situation, and this was always an inevitable fate.
This turn of event bothers me almost as much as people treating me crazy for repeating that this would obvious happen.

What would you use to create high quality man pages?
scdoc and asciidoc don't support cross-references.

Is there any #vim or #neovim gui that would allow opening a buffer into a new toplevel window (i.e.: not what "Vim" calls a window, but a real desktop window which I can move to another display).
Yes, I know that I can open a second terminal with a second copy of Vim, but that doesn't keep buffer in sync between them.

_sudo apt install hugo_ takes 2m29s on GitHub actions. This is just the first step of a pipeline.
The same pipeline takes a total of 18s on Sourcehut+Alpine, where apk installs hugo and a few other packages in 3s.

I'd be very happy to see this happen. I hear a lot of "open source needs to adapt to serve our broken economic model", and I honestly think that we need to start accepting that fixing the economic model is the right approach. Open source struggles because our current society condemns collaboration and cooperating. Instead, it rewards competitiveness and greed.
