If you haven’t tried the new PeerTube app it is fantastic! My favourite discovery has been the chapter marks on the timeline & chapter title in the top left.
Usable with no account, I think this will make PeerTube more accessible to video consumers coming from other platforms. I’m seriously loving this thing, and can’t wait for the ability to login and interact, comment, like and subscribe!

it obviously depends on your situation. But once mine was a competent cyclist on our good cycling infra, he was also big enough to fit on my tandem. At that point he became the director as we tackled more difficult routes.
He knew I would keep him safe if he told me to do the wrong thing. So he was happy to be the teacher from the backseat. He was 10-ish when we started this. Though I still don’t trust traffic I trust him in all situations by himself now.

this is true for even the tech savvy-ish. I have learned so much since joining Mastodon about tech and urban policy, mostly without being condescended to.

I’ve recently seen a number of follows from, and federation with, instances that would have been blocked had I been better about updating my blocklists.

How do I move my parents off of Facebook?
I am tired of supporting them when their FB friends get “hacked” and when the algo starts serving up disgustingly provocative images. I hate having to debunk the FUD and misinformation that FB thrives on.
Unfortunately, FB is a place for older Americans to connect with their flesh/blood friends because our car-centric culture makes in-person connections increasingly difficult.
Migrating their community is simply impossible.

Experimenting with running my own instance is quite enlightening. After a couple days of playing with settings, relays, and federation I have a brand new appreciation for the work of the many community servers.
My experience so far:
1) This is actually quite easy, and the barrier to entry is exceedingly low. @npub1c36…t8sz has addressed all of the technical BS and made it incredibly easy to spin up an instance, small or large, with no effort at all.
